Donna Green: Seattle’s Pointless Legal Battle with Public Money

The very first right of the public to be infringed in floundering administrations is the public’s right to know what their government is doing.

Unlike rational individuals spending their own money, public entities will take up hopeless legal battles in an effort to hide embarrassing information in defense of misguided decisions.

Seattle spent more money trying to hide the disappointing revenue from a tax, than it gained in income from that tax.  | More…

NH Pro-Marijuana Advocates Discuss Decriminalization Effort and Future Goals

The law was first introduced by Rep. Robert “Renny” Cushing, D-Hampton, and will go into effect on Sept. 16, making New Hampshire the last state in New England to decriminalize possession of marijuana.

Matt Simon, the New England Political Director of the Marijuana Policy Project, has been working on issues surrounding cannabis in the Granite State since 2007. In an interview with NH Journal, Simon said the House of Representatives passed a bill decriminalizing possession every year since 2008 but faced opposition from the 24-member Senate and two former governors: John Lynch and Maggie Hassan. | More…

Maggie Hassan Suddenly Concerned About the Independence of the FBI

“In the wake of President Trump’s abrupt firing of former FBI Director James Comey and the President’s own suggestion that he fired Comey because of the FBI’s ongoing investigation into the Trump campaign and Russian interference in the 2016 election, it is essential that our next FBI director is able to demonstrate true independence from the political influence of this Administration.  | More…

Kelly flexes muscle his first day on the job at White House

“It definitely has the fingerprints of a new sheriff in town,” said Blain Rethmeier, who guided Kelly through the Senate confirmation process for the Homeland Security post. Rethmeier said that what stood out about Kelly during the time they worked together was the way Kelly commanded respect from everyone he encountered — and the way he respected others.

Kelly fostered a reputation as an outspoken commander who didn’t shy away from unpopular opinions during his military career. Rethmeier said that Kelly also respects authority deeply — “and that’s something that Trump sort of smells out, if you respect him or not.” | More…

Goodbye Teachers, Hello Computers: Thank Common Core And ESSA

Back in 2010 when the New Hampshire State Board of Education adopted Common Core, I warned that this was a set up for failure.  Not only would Common Core dumb down our public schools, we’d see other negative changes, including an exodus from public schools.  Lower enrollment means there is less demand for teachers and why the Concord Monitor is reporting that there has been a decline in teaching jobs over the last decade.

Public school enrollment has shrunk 11 percent over the past decade, according to state Department of Education data.” | More…
