Lawmakers block New Hampshire bill banning some utility mergers

An effort to forbid water utilities in New Hampshire from merging with electric or gas utilities failed to advance in a recent vote.

Rep. Robert Renny Cushing, D-Hampton, sponsored the legislation, House Bill 1644. During floor debate, he said the bill was prompted by his surprise when Eversource Energy announced in June 2017 that it was acquiring Aquarion Water Company for $1.7 billion. | More at NH Watchdog
