MJ Decriminalization is Wrong Focus in Fight Against Addiction
Aren’t New Hampshire’s drug/addiction problems bad enough? How does decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana (MJ) reduce the number of addicts and associated costs? Decriminalization isn’t the answer to reducing our addiction problem.
Lacking personal experience, I refer to President Obama’s director of National Drug Control Policy’s, Michael Botticelli, December 13, 2015 interview on 60 Minutes.
Botticelli, a recovering alcoholic, is “not a fan of legalization” of MJ. He says MJ is linked to lower academic performance and lower IQs, that it exacerbates mental health problems, and that 1 in 9 MJ users become addicted to it. | More…
Attention Bikers using 495S in Massachusetts
Just received from another rider and retired firefighter
To my family & friends who ride motorcycles, and travel 495S
There was a fatal last night in the Franklin/ Wrentham area on 495 Southbound involving a motorcycle. The State Police reconstruction team brought in one of their bike troopers to test the new highway pavement. At 30mph he locked the brakes and slid 100 feet. The new pavement has some sort of rubber mixed in and doesn’t allow the friction needed for tire gripping. Be careful out there guys/ladies, ride safe.
Spread the word please.

Attorneys for the state and for the American Civil Liberties Union and two state lawmakers are scheduled to face off in Hillsborough County Superior Court on Monday to argue before a judge whether New Hampshire law allows Gardner to send the information to Washington. | More…

Bill Walker: Tax marijuana, not entrepreneurs
NEW HAMPSHIRE IS NOT A HIGH-TAX STATE. But we look like a high- tax state to businesses thinking about moving here. We have two complex business taxes. Most CFOs looking for locations take one look at the “devil they don’t know” and cross us off their lists.
So we don’t have the environmentally friendly, high paying, biotech and software businesses that Massachusetts has. Our children have to leave our beautiful state to find good jobs.
If we want good jobs here, we will have to make our state business-friendly. We should be the Singapore of New England, not a backwater. That requires simple, clear, and low business taxes. *| More…

Keene approves sized-down, child-focused pumpkin festival
By ‘wrong element’ do they mean Keen State College Students?
KEENE — A scaled-down, child-focused pumpkin festival is set to take place in Central Square on Oct. 29 from noon to 7 p.m.
The idea of bringing back the festival with a focus on the schoolchildren of SAU 29 was the brain-child of Let It Shine member Tim Zinn.
Let It Shine will run “The Keene Pumpkin Festival brought to you by the children of SAU 29,” and is responsible for the city police, fire and public works costs associated with the festival — estimated at $14,000.
Only two city councilors voted against the permit request on Thursday night, but the majority said they are “cautiously optimistic” the smaller festival would be a success and not attract the wrong element to the city. | More…

War is horrible. People are killed, maimed, emotionally destroyed. Property is destroyed, wealth is consumed. As we saw in WWI, even the winners lose in protracted wars. As we’ve seen in Viet Nam and Iraq, trying to conduct a “gentle”, “compassionate”, or “politically correct” wars just prolongs the killing, suffering, destruction, and cost. If you must fight a war, the best way to lessen the suffering is to end the war as quickly as possible. | More…
