DartBlog: Donations to (Dartmouth) College are dropping precipitously

As ye sow, so shall ye reap, Phil Hanlon. Four years of ineptitude are being reflected in fundraising numbers so dismal that people all over higher education are talking. Rather than accelerating in the run-up to the formal announcement of the capital campaign, donations to the College are dropping precipitously.

Numbers at the Dartmouth College Fund are causing fundraisers to shake their heads, though the surprise is limited, given that at a springtime meeting between student leaders and DCF organizers, the students let the alumni muckymucks have it in no uncertain terms. They confirmed in words what the senior survey stated in numbers: Phil Hanlon and his administration are deeply unpopular. | More…

Time To Refuse The Standardized Tests (Don’t Be Misled By Superintendents)

You would think that after many parents in New Hampshire have refused to let their children take the standardized test, school administrators would lighten up a bit and stop bullying and misleading parents. I do have to mention that some parents are reporting that when they refuse to let their children take the standardized tests, some administrators have been receptive and honor their requests without hesitation.

Unfortunately, this is not true for other parents in New Hampshire.

Here is a letter sent to parents by Dr. Laura H. Nelson, Superintendent of Derry Schools in New Hampshire. There seems to be misleading information presented to parents on whether they can refuse the testing. | More…

Governor Chris Sununu’s letter to the Joint Health Care Reform Oversight Committee

Dear Chairman Hunt,

At your last meeting, the committee decided to defer action on the request of the Department of Insurance for a federal waiver until you could ascertain my view on the Department’s proposal.

Today New Hampshire’s individual health insurance market, which serves nearly 50,000 people in New Hampshire, is in jeopardy. Consumers are faced with rate-increases in excess of 40% for 2018, and insurance carriers are still in the process of deciding whether to remain in the individual market. Continue reading

NH Attorney General Announces Medicaid Settlement

Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald announces that New Hampshire will receive $70,808.24 in restitution and other recoveries from the Celgene Corporation (Celgene). New Hampshire has joined with other states and the federal government to settle allegations that Celgene engaged in a variety of marketing schemes to promote the use of its drugs Thalomid® and Revlimid® for off-label use and paid kickbacks to providers in order to induce them to prescribe those drugs. Celgene, a New Jersey based company, will pay the states and the federal government $280 million. Of that amount, more than $20 million will go to State Medicaid programs to resolve civil allegations that the company unlawfully marketed the drugs through its off-label promotion and payment of kickbacks to prescribers. | More…
