New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and Commissioner John T. Beardmore announce that Manchester Ward 8 Democratic Alderman and State Rep. NH House Passes Fetal Homicide Bill

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire House has passed legislation to allow murder charges to be brought against those who cause the death of a fetus.

Nearly 40 other states already have fetal homicide laws. The bill passed by the House on Thursday would allow fetuses that have reached 20 weeks after conception to be considered victims of murder, manslaughter, negligent homicide or assisted suicide. More…

NH House passes marijuana decriminalization bill

Legislation decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana in New Hampshire is on its way to Gov. Chris Sununu’s desk, and he is expected to sign it into law.

The House on Thursday voted to concur with a change in the bill made by the state, marking the final legislative action on the bill.

The House initially passed a bill that called for decriminalizing up to a full ounce of marijuana, but Senate changed it to three-quarters of an ounce. The House on Thursday concurred on a voice vote, without any debate. More…

‘He-Man’ qualifies for special Florida Senate election ballot

“He-Man” is running for the Florida Senate in Miami — and no, he says he did not make up his nickname for the sake of politics.

Christian “He-Man” Schlaerth qualified Tuesday for the Senate District 40 special election. His name will appear that way on the Sept. 26 ballot.

Schlaerth filed a sworn affidavit attesting that his nickname is real: It’s what his rugby teammates have called him for years, he told the Miami Herald. More…

Manchester New Hampshire battles bedbugs

MANCHESTER — Students returning to the Henry Wilson School on Tuesday were given plastic bags to stow their backpacks and other belongings from home in an effort to quell a bedbug problem at the inner-city school.

A bedbug was reported at the school on May 23 and another was found two days later in another part of the school, said city Health Director Tim Soucy. Officials ordered thorough cleanings and a limited pesticide application in an attempt to eliminate the bugs, he said. More…

Arrest made in stabbing death of woman in Concord

Police on Wednesday arrested 20-year-old Daswan Jette, of Concord, in the death of 23-year-old Sabrina Marie Galusha. He’s been charged with alternate counts of knowing and reckless second-degree murder. Jette was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday; it wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer. More…
