In honor of the National Spelling Bee, which starts Wednesday, Google decided to see what words people in each of the 50 states struggle to spell.

To do this, it looked at Google searches of “how to spell ______” in each of the states from Jan. 1 to April 30, 2017. Whatever word filled that blank most often in each state became denoted as that state’s “most misspelled word.” More…

Report: NH tops nation in protecting children from death, other ‘childhood ending’ factors

New Hampshire ranks first in the nation in protecting children from death and other factors that could end their childhoods early, according to a new report by Save the Children, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The report says that the United States ranks 36th among 172 countries studied “against a common set of life-changing experiences that signal the disruption of childhood.” More..

Jerry DeLemus sentenced to 7 years for role in Nevada standoff

LAS VEGAS – A judge called a New Hampshire man a “bully vigilante” and sentenced him to more than seven years in prison for organizing armed backers of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy after a standoff with U.S. agents in 2014.

Gerald “Jerry” DeLemus on Wednesday became the first person sentenced to prison for his ties to the confrontation.

He’s been jailed for almost 16 months, so he’ll spend about six more years behind bars. The 62-year-old had been expected to receive about six years. More…
