For best shot at seeing Northern Lights, head a little north

New England residents may be able to see the Northern Lights on Sunday night, although visibility is expected to be greater farther north — and away from the bright lights of Boston.

The cause of the nocturnal light show, known as the aurora borealis, is a coronal mass ejection on Friday. The flare sent plasma on a two-day journey toward the Earth, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which houses the Space Weather Prediction Center. *| More…

Democrats Are So Out of Touch That They Just Appointed a ‘Chairwoman of Heartland Engagement’

After slowly realizing that nobody likes them, Democrats have opted to hire a woman devoted solely to training their candidates to not come off as totally arrogant douchebags.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has appointed Illinois Rep. Cheri Bustos as its chairwoman of heartland engagement.  The third-term congresswoman will be in charge of helping Democrats tailor their messaging to rural areas.  She currently represents Illinois’ 17th district. | More…

Help Fill The Write Wing Void in New Hampshire

The void of right wing writers with time or energy to convey the conservative/libertarian line on issues, local and national, from within New Hampshire, appears vast.

This is not a new problem, but it is a troubling one. There is little to no internet cover for local, state, and national officials when they do right or an adequate defense of issues when the left goes after them.

All while left in New Hampshire has no shortage of content (all year round, not just during elections). This needs to change.

St. Louis Raised The Minimum Wage, Then Missouri Reversed It

St. Louis recently increased its minimum wage to $10 an hour, more than $2 higher than the rest of the state. But the Missouri legislature has just passed a bill to nullify that city law, which means some St. Louis workers will likely lose raises they just got.  | More…

Should police be allowed to shame suspects on Facebook?

BOSTON (AP) — A driver mows down six mailboxes, slurs her words and tells police she has a lizard in her bra. Throw in a wisecracking police officer, and what do you get? A flippant post on Facebook, along with photos of the woman, and of course, her lizard.

Not everyone is amused.

Police departments are increasingly using Facebook to inform the community about what they’re doing and who they’re arresting. Some add a little humor to the mix. But civil rights advocates say posting mugshots and written, pejorative descriptions of suspects amounts to public shaming of people who have not yet been convicted. | More…

Why We’re Temporarily Shutting Down Bitcoin Vending Machines on July 31st

In a recent, in-depth article, I discussed the out-of-control fees to send bitcoin. The executive summary is that Bitcoin is somewhat broken due to the high fees that have been caused due to the Bitcoin network not being able to scale to consumer demand. The reason for this is because there has been an ongoing “geek war” for a couple years now behind the scenes that centers over some fundamental disagreements over how Bitcoin should handle its growing pains with scaling up.

Meanwhile, the fees have been rising over the last six months and have killed off the previous usefulness that Bitcoin had for microtransactions, or even small dollar transactions. Again, see my original piece for more about the fee difficulties. | More…
