Rockingham Dems host talk Tonight on How All They Have is Hating Trump

Yes, I made the title more honest because lord knows they won’t. Also, make sure to wear your red handmaid burka and bring some accelerant. (You may suddenly feel the urge to burn some private property as a demonstration of resistance or unity, or whatever).

EXETER — Since Donald Trump was elected president, new grassroots groups have emerged throughout the country to oppose his agenda. Sometimes these groups are referred to as the “Resistance” or the “Indivisible Movement.”

To hear what some of these Rockingham County groups are doing, there will be a panel discussion Wednesday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Exeter Inn, 90 Front St. The panel discussion is being sponsored by the Rockingham County Democratic Committee. *| More…

More NH Mayors Commit to Meaningless Paris Agreement Gesture

So will their towns be burning more coal or writing checks to Turkey and the UN?

Today, the Conservation League and the New Hampshire chapter of the Sierra Club will host a roundtable featuring New Hampshire mayors or their representatives who will re-commit to the Paris Climate Agreement, according to the Conservation League.

The mayors of Nashua and Lebanon are expected to be on hand, as well as representatives of the mayors of Portsmouth, Keene and Concord, Werner said.

Werner said the organization has reached out to all 13 mayors in the state and expects about half to sign on to the effort, which is being organized through climatemayors.org (Link fixed). *| More…

Acting United States Attorney John J. Farley announced Monday that New Hampshire resident Jody Swett pleaded guilty to possessing multiple firearms and ammunition, violating a judge’s orders.

On Upcoming Local Elections

At this moment, the Secretary of State’s web site lists six special elections coming up. One will be over by the time this is posted (you won’t be shocked to hear from me that a Democrat won a seat for a Concord district), but more will be added as new elections are scheduled.

Do you live in Manchester ward 8? You’ve got a state rep seat to fill. Grafton County’s district 9? Yup, you as well – and the Dem primary there was just won by a write-in candidate who’s not on the Secretary of State’s site yet. (He will be.)  Other races scheduled so far include seats for Laconia and Belmont and Auburn/Chester/Sandown. | More…

Girard at Large On Air News Read for July 19, 2017

Hot in the city.  The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  Stupid is as stupid does.  The list of music and movie titles, quotes and clichés about last night’s meeting of the Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen could go on for a long time.  Fortunately, it might not include The Hunger Games, although one could argue otherwise.

Residents of the city’s South End brought the heat last night as speaker after speaker opposed a proposed change to the zoning ordinance requested by politically connected developer Will Socha that would allow up to two hundred high-density multi unit apartments to be built on South Mammoth Road.  | More…

Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas Wont Be Investigated

MANCHESTER — Mayor Ted Gatsas won a political vote of confidence of sorts Tuesday night when the Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted overwhelmingly to reject subjecting Gatsas to an investigation by the city conduct board for his handling of a 2015 rape of a student at Manchester High School West.

By an 8-2 count, aldermen voted to place on file — the equivalent of tossing into the dumpster — the request for an investigation from longtime former Alderman Bill Cashin, who two years ago was campaign co-chairman for Gatsas’ political rival for mayor, Joyce Craig.

Cashin had asked that the conduct panel probe whether Gatsas violated the city charter by interfering with the operation of the police and school departments in their investigation of the 2015 rape of a female student in a hallway at West.  | More…

It’s Official: NH Governor Signs Cannabis Decriminalization!

This isn’t the best de-crim bill possible, but it’s a big step in the right direction for the Live Free or Die state. Police have sixty days before the bill goes into effect to arrest as many users as possible because, after sixty days, they’re only allowed to ticket for cannabis possession. HB 640 eliminates criminal penalties for the possession of up to 3/4 of an ounce of cannabis and/or up to five grams of hashish for those age 18 or older.  | More…

Former NH school official facing drug charges misses court

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A judge says he’s concerned a former dean of students at a New Hampshire high school charged with drug possession was lying after she didn’t show up for jury selection for her trial.

Rekha Luther was arrested in 2016 and charged with possession of fentanyl and illegal steroids at the school. Prosecutors said that Luther missed two court dates over the last month, including one for jury selection. | More…

More Obama officials scrutinized in ‘unmasking’ probe

The number of people thought to be involved in the alleged “unmasking” of American citizens under the Obama administration could be expanding, according to a source close to the House Intelligence Committee’s review.

The source with knowledge of the review told Fox News the records suggest the unmasking “goes beyond” key officials like former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, former CIA Director John Brennan and former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power.

The source said more than a half-dozen former senior Obama administration officials are now of interest to House committee investigators. | More…
