ICYMI – In 2017 Dem. Rep. Katherine Rogers Was Awarded ‘Humane Legislator of the Year’

File this under better with animals than people?

The Humane Society of New Hampshire has named Katherine Rogers “Humane Legislator of the Year,” according to Lindsay Hamrick, the New Hampshire State director. Rogers was the prime sponsor on last year’s HB 1547, which banned sexual assault of animals in New Hampshire, the so-called “Bestiality Bill.”

C’mon, it’s funny and bit ironic. Don’t you think?

Democrat Lawmaker posts, then deletes, Trump assassination comment

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Missouri lawmaker acknowledged Thursday that she posted and later deleted a comment on Facebook about hoping for President Donald Trump’s assassination, saying she was frustrated with the president’s response to the white supremacist rally and violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Democratic Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal said she was wrong for writing the post and didn’t mean what she said, but she refused calls to resign. Former NH State Rep Collette Worseman (R-Meridith) on the assault by NH State Rep Katherine Rogers

Katherine Rogers has been charged with assault and needs to step down immediately from her position as the State Representative for Concord’s Wards 8, 9 and 10. She is a former Concord city councilor and Merrimack County Attorney and is still serving on the House Finance Committee. This is behavior unacceptable for a State Representative let alone one who is a lawyer. She has violated the public trust and broken the law. In today’s Concord Monitor, it was reported Katherine Rogers has been charged with assault. | More…

A CLASSIC example of the NH GOP stuck in the Marquis of Queensbury rules

Sad face. What a wishy-washy one it is, too: “disappointed” as if those wielding the paint were just “misguided yutes” for which we need to have empathy. Certainly, we can “win hearts and change minds” – like a schoolmarm shaking a finger at an unruly class with “just not acceptable behavior” (yeah, well so was voting Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion, right?).  And the pie-in-the-sky thought that “we can agree to disagree” about stuff. Sorry, ain’t gonna happen. | More…

A Reminder as New Hampshire Grows Its Addiction Bureaucracy

Read this book before it is too late. (Or read it again.)

Theodore Dalrymple believes that almost everything people know about opiate addiction is wrong. Most flawed of all is the notion that addicts are in touch with profound mysteries of which non-addicts are ignorant. Dalrymple shows that doctors, psychologists and social workers, all of them uncritically accepting addicts’ descriptions of addiction, have employed literary myths (drugs are creative and intense) in constructing an equal and opposite myth of quasi-treatment. Using evidence from literature and pharmacology and drawing on examples from his own clinical experience, Dalrymple shows that addiction is not a disease, but a response to personal and existential problems. He argues that withdrawal from opiates is not the serious medical condition, but a relatively trivial experience and says that criminality causes addiction far more often than addiction causes criminality.
