State probes fatal officer-involved shooting at Belmont gas station

BELMONT — A 46-year-old Belmont man recently indicted for attempted aggravated felonious sexual assault was shot and killed Saturday following an incident with a Belmont police officer, law enforcement sources said.
Joseph Mazzitelli, whose last known address is listed as 11 Dock Road in Belmont, was brought to Lakes Region General Hospital for treatment, but died from his injuries following the 2:30 p.m. incident. *| More…

Senate panel investigating surging Medicaid costs in …New Hampshire…

The soaring costs of Medicaid expansion in eight U.S. states – including Michigan, Ohio, New Hampshire and Illinois, is under investigation by a U.S. Senate committee.

California Moves Up Presidential Primary, Political Implications Abound

California announced this week it will hold its 2020 presidential primary on March 3, moving up three months in a decision with the potential for an intriguing political impact.

Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed the Prime Time Primary Act into law on Sept. 27, designating California’s primary be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of March. UNH: Sex assault down, hate crimes up

UNH’s Durham campus saw a 50 percent decrease in the amount of on-campus rapes in 2016 in comparison to the previous year. Campus rates of crime in 2016, not including the categories of fondling, domestic violence, liquor laws arrests, drug law arrests and hate crime, saw a decrease or remained the same as in 2015, according to data released by the UNH Police Department on Sept. 27 in accordance with the Clery Act. Not A Lot Of Syphilis in NH But NY Ranked #1

Centers for Disease Control – Sexually transmitted disease (STD) rates across the country are going up for the third year in a row according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

New York ranked highest in our region for reported cases of syphilis at 5th out of the 50 states in 2016 with 2,455 reported cases.

Vermont ranked 37th with 23 cases.

Boo Hoo – “Bias Incident” Reported at Dartmouth College

In an email addressed to West House residents this evening, West House professor Ryan Hickox and assistant director of residential education for West House Ted Stratton wrote that a bias incident had been reported as of Sunday night.

The incident occurred in the hallway of Fahey Hall and consisted of racist and sexist graffiti targeting specific members of the community on the hallway’s bulletin board. | More…
