Fetal Homicide Bill: Ought to Pass With Amendment

SB 66 in its current form would allow prosecutors the option of filing a homicide charge against anyone whose bad actions cause the death of a preborn child at 20 weeks’ gestation or later if that death occurs against the will of the mother.

The next House session is June 1, and SB 66 will probably get its House vote that day. The message I’ll send my reps before that session is simple: support the committee recommendation on SB 66. More…

‘Transracialism’ Has Gender Ideologues at Each Others’ Throats

Dolezal defended the fact (which was not really a fact) that she was black by applying the cultural constructivist logic of gender ideology (that gender is dictated by culture—or even your own feelings, not biology) to the issue of race.

Basically, so the argument goes, if Caitlyn Jenner can decide what gender she is, then Rachel Dolezal can decide what race she is. There is no argument that works for one and doesn’t work for the other.  More…

The Left’s War on Free Speech

…With that introduction, my main point today is that we’ve experienced over the past eight years a profound shift in our political culture, a shift that has resulted in a significant portion of our body politic holding a five-year-old’s view of free speech. What makes this shift notable is that unlike most changes in politics, you can trace it back to one day: January 21, 2010, the day the Supreme Court issued its Citizens United ruling and restored free speech rights to millions of Americans. NH House to reconsider ‘fetal homicide bill’

CONCORD — In a move that surprised many Democrats, the House Criminal Justice Committee has done an about-face on Senate Bill 66, the so-called “fetal homicide bill.”

Having voted 20-1 to retain the bill on May 9, the committee was expected to hold a work session on the measure Tuesday with an eye toward next year. At least that’s what was posted in the House calendar.

Instead, Rep. John Burt, R-Goffstown, introduced a motion to reconsider the bill, which passed 12-8. By the same 12-8 vote, the committee then approved an “ought to pass” recommendation on the bill. More…

Mark Steyn: “Dangerous Woman” Meets Dangerous Man

Excerpt from Mark Steyn on the Terror attack in Manchester, England, yesterday.

“Carrying on exactly as before”, as The Independent advises, will not be possible. A few months ago, I was in Toulouse, where Jewish life has vanished from public visibility and is conducted only behind the prison-like walls of a fortress schoolhouse and a centralized synagogue that requires 24/7 protection by French soldiers; I went to Amsterdam, which is markedly less gay than it used to be; I walked through Molenbeek after dark, where unaccompanied women dare not go. You can carry on, you can stagger on, but life is not exactly as it was before. Inch by inch, it’s smaller and more constrained. More…
