Northern Pass Clears Another Regulatory Hurdle

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission has given permission for a 192-mile high-voltage transmission line to cross 61 parcels, finding it would be safe and wouldn’t infringe on the public’s use.

The Northern Pass project cleared the hurdle this month when the PUC granted permission to developer Eversource for 57 overhead land and four underground water crossings that are mostly on property controlled by the developer and licensed for power lines. | More…

Bernie Sanders’s wife, Jane Sanders, has reportedly hired lawyers following a federal investigation into her time as president of the now-defunct Burlington College in Vermont. She is accused of fraudulently obtaining a $10 million bank loan that was purportedly used to buy 33 acres of land for the school. But, the full story is a little stranger than that.

In a lengthy feature, Politico magazine reports that the investigation into Jane Sanders began in 2016 under then U.S. President Barack Obama. His administration was notified of Sanders’s alleged financial irregularities by Brady Toensing, a Republican lawyer who headed up Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in Vermont. | More…

Hawaii named ‘worst state to make a living’ … again

HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now) -At least we’re consistent: For a seventh straight year, Hawaii has been named the worst state to make a living thanks to its astronomical cost of living.

Hawaii News Now takes a closer look at the high cost of living and the challenges people face living in paradise.

The ranking put together annually by MoneyRates.com, says while Hawaii has the 10th-highest median wage nationwide, that’s not enough to make up for living expenses that are two-thirds higher than in the rest of the nation. The high cost of living is compounded by one of the highest state tax income burdens in the nation. | More…

Dems push leaders to talk less about Russia

Democratic leaders have been beating the drum this year over the ongoing probes into the Trump administration’s potential ties to Moscow, taking every opportunity to highlight the saga and forcing floor votes designed to uncover any business dealings the president might have with Russian figures.

But rank-and-file Democrats say the Russia-Trump narrative is simply a non-issue with district voters, who are much more worried about bread-and-butter economic concerns like jobs, wages and the cost of education and healthcare. | More…
