Businesses Destroyed During Riots Sue City Officials for Failing to Prevent Damage

The April 2015 Baltimore riots caused a great deal of damage to local businesses.  Former Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is reported to have told police to stand down and insisted that the lawless mobs be given “space” to destroy private property unimpeded.

Baltimore businesses are now suing city officials, including the former mayor and local police, for failing to prevent the rampant looting and rioting that resulted in nearly $13 million in damages. | More…

NH Budget: Tax Cuts, Tax Repeal, Funding for State Priorities

The House voted 198-169 in favor of the $11.7 billion 2-year spending plan for the State of New Hampshire contained in HB144, and 212-161 in favor of HB517, the trailer bill containing policy and tax reforms to accompany the budget. Both bills passed the Senate on a party line vote. 93.2% of House Republicans supported HB144. 96.7% of House Republicans supported HB517.

Nebraska Democratic Official Ousted After Recording Surfaced of Him Wishing Scalise Died

Illinois Bishop Decrees No Communion, Funeral Rites For Same-Sex Spouses

A Catholic bishop has instructed priests in his central Illinois diocese to deny communion, last rites and funeral rites to people in same-sex marriages – unless they repent.

New Hampshire Lottery Cleared For Online Expansion

New Hampshire is expected to become the fifth U.S. state to offer interactive lottery (iLottery) games after lawmakers agreed on Thursday to endorse online lottery expansion.

The New Hampshire House and Senate both voted Thursday to pass House Bill 571 to implement various policies, including iLottery, tied to the Granite State’s budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year.

New Hampshire man pleads not guilty to shooting death of food delivery driver

A New Hampshire man denied he killed a food delivery driver in Lynn, then raped a North Andover convenience store clerk.  The Salem News reported that Brian Brito was arraigned on murder, rape and firearms charges in Salem Superior Court Friday.

Brito., 21, of Manchester, NH was arrested in March not long after he allegedly shot and killed food delivery driver Mohammedreza Sina Zangiband in what police believe was an act of road rage. Authorities said three hours later Brito forced the female clerk in the Richdale Variety store in North Andover into the back room at gunpoint and raped her.  | More…

NH’s economic heat wave

After a prolonged recession, a 3 percent unemployment seems hot. New Hampshire has been at 3 percent or lower since November 2015. That’s not just hot anymore. It’s scorching. 

“Normally, it’s a great thing to have low unemployment, but you can argue it’s a problem not to attract enough labor,” understated Annette Nielsen, an economist with the state Economic and Labor Market Information Bureau. “The for-hire signs are everywhere.” | More…

Escaped prisoner taken into custody in Concord NH

A prisoner who escaped from a sheriff deputy’s cruiser Thursday afternoon has been found, officials said Friday.

Tamara Ipock, 35, was taken into custody at about 11 a.m. Friday in Concord.

Police said they received a tip that Ipock was at a homeless camp on the south side of Concord. She was found in a tent in a wooded area off South Main Street, police said. |More…
