Conway School board to return $2 million to Taxpayers

CONWAY — Conway School Board members shared some good news earlier this month — they’ll be returning nearly $2 million to the town to help offset taxes.

At a recent meeting, the board revealed it has more than $1.7 million left in its coffers from the prior school year. On top of that, they agreed to release another $215,000 by not retaining the 2.5 percent of the budget for the next year. | More…

Piers Morgan: It’s Kanye West’s fault that white college students (at UNH) used the ‘n’ word

For those who aren’t familiar with the song, it contains the line ‘But she ain’t messin’ with no broke n****a’. Some people maintained that they had done nothing wrong by singing along to the song, while others contended that it was offensive for white people to use that word in any context.

Unsurprisingly, Morgan is in the former camp and says that West himself should be blamed for perpetuating use of the word. | More…

Keno-garten Conflicts On The Concord City Council?

CONCORD, NH — At least two Concord officials could have been – or may, in the future – be in conflict during official discussions about Keno in the city of Concord which has been put up for a vote this November. The issue arose during recent Concord City Council meetings after Mayor Jim Bouley – who co-owns one of the state’s most profitable lobbying and consulting firms, Dennehy and Bouley – stepped away from leading meetings due to his lobbying relationship with Intralot, the New Hampshire Lottery Commission’s Keno vendor. The first time, on Aug. 14, 2017, the mayor stepped away from the meeting but failed to announce why he was stepping away, something that council rules require. | More…

“Defending Free Speech” Has to Mean More than Just Opposing Efforts to Silence It

Did Mr. Beinart oppose those moves? I honestly don’t know, but I hope he did. Because while the government isn’t a thing we all share it can and will use force to impose a morality that can’t be ignored.

This is why conservatives cherish the founding and the constitution. It left almost all of that expression, that power to impose a limited sense of their shared morality, in the hands of the states and the people, with the locals who could keep an eye on it, better constrain it to suit limited local interests.

In the era of big government and federal overreach that constraint is rare which creates a landscape where free speech is more important than ever. | More…

CNHT: Hundreds of Illegal Alien Voters Discovered in Philadelphia

When trying to present voter fraud as a non-problem, it’s common for liberals to point solely to documented cases of voter fraud. The oft-cited statistic liberals use is that there have only been 31 documented cases of voter fraud. Now, given the lack of photo-IDs in most states, it’s nearly impossible to catch someone in the act of committing voter fraud, which could explain the low number.

As The Federalist’s John Gibbs puts it, “does the fact that 109 people were cited for jaywalking in Seattle in 2009 mean that only 109 people jaywalked in Seattle that year?  | More…

Michael Gill’s Manchester message board gets unplugged

MANCHESTER — A judge allowed the majority owner of the commercial condominium housing Mortgage Specialists in Manchester to cut the power Thursday to a sign board displaying controversial messages, saying owner Michael Gill is in contempt of court for continuing to display words and images not related to his business.

Superior Court Judge Amy Messer issued the ruling Thursday, deciding in favor of David Goldstein, principal owner of Martins Management Associates — the majority owner of the commercial condominium that is home to Mortgage Specialists — located near the South Willow Street/Interstate 293 interchange. | More…
