Mizzou enrollment falls to lowest level since 2008

Amid ongoing fallout from the protests that rocked campus in 2015, the University of Missouri recently welcomed its smallest student body since 2008.

As Campus Reform has repeatedly reported, the embattled university has taken hit after hit, starting with a $32 million budget shortfall and a five-percent budget cut, followed by a seven-percent drop in freshmen enrollment heading into last school year. | More…

Special Election for NH State Rep: a Note on Jim Headd

New Hampshire voters in Auburn, Chester, and Sandown (Rockingham County district 4) will go to the polls tomorrow, September 26, for a special election to fill a state representative seat. Among the candidates is former state representative Jim Headd. An alert Leaven for the Loaf reader reminded me of an event I covered three years ago, at which Mr. Headd was a speaker. | More…

It’s Monday: I’m on the Air at WLMW 90.7 FM at 8:40 am

This will be my last Monday in-studio with Rich Girard but not my last Monday on the program. I’m working on calling-in in future weeks but at a different time so check back for details on that.

For today I’ll be poking and prodding recent reporting (and what’s missing from that reporting) on some “privately funded” for-profit passenger rail service that loops in Nashua. We’ve got the absence of coverage from a pro-Trump event where a BLM leader was given time to speak. And did you know that a feminist group has admitted that the so-called pay-gap is a result of women’s choices. |GraniteGrok

Privately funded passenger rail pitched for southern NH

NASHUA — Boston Surface Railroad Company of Rhode Island is in the early stages of planning to bring privately funded passenger rail service from Bedford to Worcester, Mass., with potential stops in Nashua and Lowell, Mass.

City officials will be presented with a proposal on Tuesday to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the railroad company and the other communities to promote and facilitate the plan.

“If Nashua provided a station, we would be happy to stop there,” said Vincent Bono, president of Boston Surface Railroad Company, adding the project would be privately funded, and likely utilize a loan from the Railroad Reinvestment and Improvement Fund. *| More…

Interfaith Group Turning Trashed Home into NH Mosque

It’s been a crazy week, but major progress has been made turning a house that was trashed by its previous “libertarian” tenants into NH’s first full-time mosque. The Masjid al Latiff and Interfaith Community Center (MALIC Center) is Will Coley‘s vision that is becoming a reality, thanks to an interfaith group of people who have over the last week been removing junk, cleaning up a unspeakably disgusting mess, repairing damage to the home, painting, removing trees, and more. Whether Muslim, Christian, Panentheist, or even agnostic or atheist, it’s been awesome to see that the MALIC Center is already creating an interfaith community despite not having officially opened its doors. | More…

Medicaid Expansion – What Will NH Republicans Do When the ‘Free’ Money is Gone?

For years we have warned about taking “free money with strings attached.” There’s another meme that describes the below from the Pravda on the Merrimack: “Fed crack.” No, not real drugs but the allure and the addiction is just as real as that white powder: greenbacks. Lots of it. FREE MONEY they say. Until it isn’t free. Or not there at all. | More…

Feminist group admits ‘pay gap’ is caused by women’s choices

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has finally admitted that the “gender pay gap” is caused by women’s choices.

In a recent article on the gender pay gap, AAUW Senior Researcher Kevin Miller concedes that the pay disparity between women and men isn’t caused primarily by discrimination, but rather by the personal and professional choices that women make. | More…

NH police and illegals: Is this ‘catch and release?’

The New Hampshire State Police are working on a “clear policy” regarding that agency’s role in dealing with illegal immigrants. We hope it comes up with something clearer and better than what the Deerfield police have just adopted.

Immigration enforcement is clearly not the police’s primary concern. But to simply say, “Not our job,” does a disservice to New Hampshire citizens and non-citizens here legally, as well as to the police as an agency of law enforcement. *| More…

Weekend Pundit: The ‘Big Lie’ Tactic Lives On

The efficacy of The Big Lie has been proven again and again over the years. It certainly has been proven most recently in regards to the so-called “rape crisis” on college campuses. I was reminded of this while watching our local TV station’s morning news.

One of the news stories dealt with a new smart phone app created to help prevent sexual assaults on the University of New Hampshire campus. That in itself was not what bothered me. There’s nothing wrong with creating and using such an app. Call it just another measure women can take to help protect themselves. My gripe is the reasoning behind the creation and use of the app, that reason being nothing more than the result of the most recent Big Lie being touted as truth. | More…

Strong Majority Support “Stand Your Ground” in New Hampshire

Under castle doctrine laws, a resident may use deadly force without first attempting retreat if the resident is attacked in his or her home.  Under so-called “stand your ground” laws, a resident may use deadly force anywhere he or she has a right to be without first attempting retreat. Read more about this issue. On July 25, Citizens Count, NH’s Live Free or Die Alliance decided to put the issue to its Facebook members, posting the question, “Should New Hampshire require people to attempt retreat (when possible) before using deadly force outside the home?” | More…
