Tick-Borne Powassan Virus Making an Appearance in NH

Although there have been only two cases confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control in New Hampshire, Powassan virus, spread by ticks, as is Lyme disease, is of great concern to health professionals.

Still, Dr. David Itkin, Infectious disease specialist at Portsmouth Regional Hospital said it is important to remember that Lyme disease remains the most important threat to the public from the black-legged ticks. He said more cases of Lyme are seen than any other area tick-borne disease. More…
