Do you think former elected school district officials should be employed by the school district or its associated SAU?

I think the answer is an emphatic “No!”  How can any person be assured that an elected official faithfully discharged their duties to the public when shortly after their public service they land a job with the school district or SAU with which their service was associated? More…

Senate retains bill to penalize ‘double-dipping’

CONCORD — A bill that sought to penalize municipalities for hiring so-called double-dippers was retained by the state Senate but its goal is expected to be revisited by the Decennial Retirement Commission, which meets next month.

By statute, the commission will meet “on or about July 1, beginning in 2017,” in order “to make recommendations to ensure the long-term viability of the New Hampshire retirement system.” The NHRS is funded by public employees, taxpayers and returns on investments and has a $5 billion unfunded liability. The unfunded liability is the difference between money owed current and future public retirees and the funds in the pension pool. | More…

The Aggregator’s Curse

An Aggregator is not some new Everglades reptile, it’s what happens here every day. The scraping and scouring of the interwebs in search of links worthy of you.

But as the legislative season winds to a close in New Hampshire and the weather warms up (on days it isn’t raining) the “links from around New Hampshire” portion of the site tagline gets harder to fulfill. Bloggers, Podcasters, Vloggers, and the rest are not opining on local news or sharing their opinion they are outside taking advantage of better weather.

With that in mind, I ask two things. First, be patient and please keep checking back–there will continue to be 15-20 new stories every day for your consideration. Second, send me content. If you find a local story or write one send me a link and I’ll check it out.

Email me at nh.steve@yahoo.com, find me on facebook and send an IM, tweet it to me, or like the New Media Militia Page on Facebook and post it there!

Thanks for your help!

While official Washington remained fixated on former FBI Director Jim Comey’s testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday, Sununu met with a select group of governors, mayors, and tribal leaders to brainstorm on how to streamline federal permitting and unlock more private investment on road, bridge and other public construction work.

In a telephone interview later, Sununu said Trump, as a career builder of hotels, casinos, and housing complexes is uniquely qualified to bring about systemic change. | More…

State Budget Should Have No Room for Abortion

Whenever the New Hampshire Executive Council awards a contract to an abortion provider, someone in the room is bound to remark that the funds are for non-abortion work or that taxpayers aren’t funding abortions. That doesn’t tell the whole story.

New Hampshire state funds might not go directly for abortion, but they go to abortion providers. That’s a distinction without a difference. When voting on a state budget for the next biennium, legislators should keep that in mind. | More…
