While the numbers for July aren’t final quite yet, Manchester Fire Department Emergency Medical Services Officer Christopher Hickey has released updated statistics on the opioid crisis as of yesterday. He decided to go into the office to do some paperwork after rappelling down the facade of the Brady Sullivan Tower at 1000 Elm Street as part of the Granite United Way’s Live United Over the Edge fund raiser, which this year dedicated proceeds to the Safe Station program which provides on demand treatment to addicts. As of yesterday, the Manchester Fire Department had responded to seventy suspected overdose scenes, including two fatalities, in July. Last July, the department responded to eighty-one overdose scenes, including eight fatalities. | More…

Officials say opioid ODs down, but spice on the rise
Statistics released Sunday by city fire officials show that while the number of July opioid overdoses are down this month from this time last year, emergency responders are seeing an uptick in prescription and non-opioid drug overdoses — including spice.

‘Trans Rally’ was Planned Months Ago to Push Lies About NH Laws
Yesterday, there was a “transgender equality” rally held in Manchester. WMUR reported that the rally was “in response to President’s call to ban transgender people in military.” The rally was actually planned back in February, long before President Trump’s tweets about banning transgenders from the military .
The rally was planned before the New Hampshire House of Representatives tabled a “gender identity” bill that would have given transpeople special rights over others. House Bill 478 (HB 478), AN ACT prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity, was a controversial piece of legislation that saw the Granite State swarmed with out-of-state trans activists who lied about existing New Hampshire laws and smeared the state while they were trying to pass the legislation. | More…
Elevated bacteria levels reported in several New Hampshire bodies of water
Officials at the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services said they are seeing an increase of dangerous levels of cyanobacteria in freshwater. Officials said the bacteria is always in lakes and ponds but usually at safe levels. It’s not clear what caused the spike.
“Through a variety of factors, it can cause a bloom. If the water looks scummy or there’s really blue-green in the water we recommend you just stay out of the water,” DES spokesperson Jim Martin said. | More…

NH Enters Day Six of Media Blackout on Wasserman Schultz/Imran Awan Story
The story broke six days ago. A Tale of international intrigue with the potential for insider influence peddling that has all the elements the Democrats with millions of dollars in media resources and thousand of investigative hours (over the course of eight months) have failed to uncover in the Russia-Trump story.
But a search of local New Hampshire media sites from NHPR, The Portsmouth Herald (SeacoastOnline), Keene Sentinel, Union Leader, NH1, WMUR, and others produced zero search results for the IT guy the FBI arrested, Imran Awan. | More…
NH: Judge blows off victimless crime question
A bail reform subcommittee meets at the NH state house complex. Judge Tina Nadeau, who you saw at the start, leads the meeting does not immediately seem to be overly authoritarian. Earlier a judge who is on this subcommittee refused to answer most of my questions. So I have more as he leaves. ‘
Teacher jobs shrinking in New Hampshire
Teaching jobs in New Hampshire are projected to shrink by the end of next year.
The Concord Monitor reports that the education industry is expected to contract by 508 jobs between 2016 and 2018 even as the state sees an overall growth in employment.
That’s according to short-term employment predictions released this month by the labor bureau. | More…

CHANGE IN CIVIL FORFEITURE POLICY UNLIKELY TO AFFECT NH
A policy change announced this week by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions isn’t likely to greatly increase seizure of cash, cars or other property of people suspected of crimes but not charged, a New Hampshire federal prosecutor said.
Such seizures, known as civil asset forfeiture, are allowed under some circumstances in the federal court system. In New Hampshire state court cases, property can’t be seized unless there is a conviction.
The policy change by Sessions would potentially give state and local prosecutors a work-around, allowing them to use federal civil asset forfeiture laws instead of operating under the more restrictive state statute. | More…
