The ailing state of government lawyering in NH

Since unceremoniously and precipitously firing our last highly qualified U.S. Attorney, the president has failed to appoint a replacement in the District of New Hampshire, leaving our state’s federal law enforcement outposts without an appointed captain to steer their efforts.

This new reality comes in the midst of renewed reports that the New Hampshire Attorney General has had to contract out core investigative functions involving consumer protection in the opioid crisis.

That fact became statewide news as a result of a strange NH Supreme Court decision in the Actavis matter, in which the court refused to address the merits of arguments from pharma companies that our state’s lawyers failed to follow state law when hiring outside counsel to represent our interests. | More…

Democrats Admit Obama’s Presidency was a Failure

On Friday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (R-CA) posted the Democrats’ weekly address featuring Representative Betty McCollum of Minnesota. In the address, McCollum hits on a number of topics, including the Democrats’ latest catch phrase “A Better Deal.”

McCollum states that “The American people expect Congress and the White House to do the people’s business.” She is absolutely correct in this statement which is why the American people fully expected the Republican-controlled Senate to repeal Obamacare, which is what a majority of Americans want. They failed thanks to progressive Republicans like John McCain, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski. | More…

Man at Belmont gun range dies from self-inflicted shot to head in ‘tragic accident’

BELMONT — A man at a local indoor firing range died Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

“It was just a tragic accident,” said Belmont Police Cpl. Evan Boulanger.

Because it Matters: Capital vs. capitol

Because it matters,

As a nouncapital refers to (1) a city that serves as a center of government, (2) wealth in the form of money or property, and (3) a capital letter. As an adjective, it means (1) principal, (2) involving financial assets, and (3) deserving of the death penalty. There are other definitions of capital, but these are the most commonly used ones.

Capitol has two very specific definitions (outside ancient Rome): (1) a U.S. state legislature building, and (2) the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. State capitols are located in the capital cities of U.S. states, and the Capitol is located in the capital city of the U.S. If you’re not talking about any of these capitol buildings, then the word you want is probably capital.

The Capitol building located in Washington, D.C. is spelled with a capital C, but state capitol buildings ordinarily don’t have the capital (which is not to say that some writers don’t capitalize them anyway).

‘Collusion’ Collapses: Dem Congressional Espionage Ring Takes Center Ring

In truth, the Russians “colluded” through GPS Fusion to harm, not help, Trump and the evidence of that is coming out. It’s time to repeal the Special Counsel law which has now been used twice to hamstring two Republican Presidents, has dubious constitutional authority, and will never result in the indictment of a prominent Democratic politician. | More…

True Bipartisan Compromise on Obamacare is Impossible

RINOpublican Senators Collins, McCain and Murkowski were barely done stabbing the voters who gave the GOP control of the federal government in the back when Senate Minority Leader Cryin Chuck Schumer was bloviatweeting about the need for a “bipartisan” “fix” for the mess that Obamacare has made of health care.

Schumer’s fixes for Obamacare, however, would move us closer to a “single-payer,” that is Western-European style, government-run health care.  More specifically, Schumer wants to “stabilize” the health insurance markets and add a “public option” to Obamacare. | More…
