Why was there recruitment for paid protesters in Charlottesville?

So it seems that my Notable Quote – Newt Gingrich has spurred a bit of commentary – which I do like.  However, a statement was made, a challenge sprung up, and I found the answer.  From Tom F:

Who is really behind those ads in Craigslist that I hear about, offering money for protesters?

Bruce Currie issued the challenge:

Would you post a link to “ads in Craigslist…offering money for protestors”?

So, when I have the interest and the time, I try to oblige: | More…

Green against SAU 55 Board Continues

On Friday, August 11, 2017, I was in a small room with three lawyers, being recorded with a piece of New Hampshire antiquity, a cassette tape recorder. …

The purpose of the pre-hearing conference was to “facilitate the proceedings of the hearing by discussing and clarifying the issues on appeal, discussing the possibility of settlement, stipulating to facts not in dispute, discussing the number of witnesses, and making discovery requests,”  according to the pre-hearing notice sent to me on August 3, 2017.

I had prepared a list of facts not in dispute, a list of evidence to be requested and a list of witnesses, depending on the agreed upon facts.  I had also considerably fleshed out my complaint.  None of that work was destined to be presented that day. | More…

The Curious Case of Christopher Cantwell

This week the Keene Sentinel published a front-page article about Christopher Cantwell, a racist, white-supremacist podcaster who lives in Keene. Unfortunately the Sentinel’s original version of the article, which appears in the print edition, erroneously claims that Chris Cantwell was a Free Keene blogger.

Thankfully, the Sentinel quickly corrected that error in their online edition, as Chris has never been a blogger here at Free Keene. Free Keene’s motto is “Peaceful Evolution”. Chris’ message over the years has never been one of peace, so he never has been invited to blog here. People advocating violence and hate are not welcome to blog on this site. | More…

Libertarian Party Apologizes After Saying North Korea Has More Freedom than the United States

The Libertarian Party has apologized after a tweet praising North Korea as having more freedom than the United States. In a series of now-deleted tweets, the official Twitter account of the Libertarian Party tweeted praise at North Korea last week for its marijuana-friendly policies, saying that it was an example of “more freedom” than the United States. On Sunday, the account backtracked and apologized for the tweet, saying that in “no universe” could the totalitarian regime be viewed as a symbol of freedom.  |More…

Jobs in the North Country? Not So Fast, Says Lebanon, NH

Lebanon — Developer David Clem on Monday blamed city officials for causing construction delays of his proposed River Park development slated for West Lebanon.

A combination of mistakes and inaction on the part of city staff has prolonged negotiations, he told the Planning Board, adding it’s now unlikely construction will begin this year.

Clem went before the board hoping members would settle a longstanding dispute over how much money his company, XYZ Dairy LLC, is required to put forward for a performance bond before work can start on an extension of Crafts Avenue. *|More…

On Free Speech And Really Bad Ideas

“When people do choose to use their free speech rights to advocate hatred and evil, the rest of us are obliged to counter it. Now I don’t think you counter it with censorship. I agree with John Stuart Mill, who talked about the marketplace of ideas, and the best cure for bad speech, for bad ideas, is more speech and better ideas. And so I think that’s the approach we want to have. I will say I’m glad that Spencer and the White Supremacists are not coming to A&M. … I think Texas doesn’t need to listen to their garbage.” |More…

Gaudet to Aldermen: Time to do the right thing.

Your Honor Mayor Gatsas and Members of the Manchester Board of Aldermen:

My name is Jim Gaudet, of Roysan Street in Ward 8. I have been a homeowner there for 27.5 years. In June of this year, I filed an ethics complaint with the Mayor pursuant to the City Charter against Aldermen Gamache and Ludwig for their second violation of the Conflict of Interest section of the City Charter. On August 8th, the Manchester City Solicitor’s Office completed its investigation and not surprisingly found that these two Aldermen had violated the charter [again]. The sheer brazenness of their actions demanded someone challenge their unethical and illegal behavior. | More…
