Governor Sununu: No Toll Increase

NH Governor Chris Sununu announced that he’s stopping an effort to increase road tolls in the state.

The toll increase was scheduled to be voted on next month by the Executive Council. The governor now says he won’t be putting the item on the agenda for the Council meeting. Democrat Rep. Katherine Rogers Pleads Guilty To Assault Charge

The 2017 ‘Humane Legislator of the Year’ entered a guilty plea to avoid jail time for assaulting Conservative activist Susan Olsen.

CONCORD, NH — A local Democrat and state representative pleaded guilty this morning to assaulting a political opponent during a state Senate ballot recount in November 2016. State Rep. Katherine Rogers, D-Concord, 61, pleaded guilty to the assault charge as part of a plea deal that would help her avoid jail time as well as a fine so long as she stays out of trouble during the next year and attends anger management classes during the next 90-days. | Keep Reading at GraniteGrok.com

I’ve heard of parents who have trouble explaining Santa Claus to their kids. My parents called on the United States Navy to do the job.

I grew up in south Florida, so part of the Santa Claus legend always sounded a little off to me. Our house didn’t look anything like the ones in Santa-themed storybooks. I once asked my dad how Santa got into houses like ours, with no chimney. He assured me that Santa had his little ways. Woman whose 84 Great Danes were seized will not serve jail time

A woman who had dozens of filthy and sick Great Danes living in her New Hampshire mansion will not spend time in jail after being found guilty on 10 animal cruelty charges.

Eighty-four dogs were seized from Christina Fay’s Wolfeboro home in June. Authorities said the animals were living in filth and suffering from health problems. | More at WMUR.com

Guide calling Christmas trees, dreidels inappropriate was ‘ill-advised’

The University of Minnesota has disavowed a set of guidelines issued by one of its academic departments labeling holiday symbols such as Christmas trees, doves and dreidels as “religious iconography” inappropriate for a school setting.

The school’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resources Sciences recently issued a set of guidelines that encouraged employees to “recognize holidays in ways that are respectful of the diversity of our community,” Campus Reform first reported. |More at the Washington Times

N.H. Part of Nationwide Settlement…

New Hampshire will get about $144,000 as part of a nationwide, multimillion-dollar settlement against a company accused of off-label marketing for four of its drugs.

All 50 states participated in the $13.5 million settlement against Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, or BIPI. The states claimed BIPI misrepresented the benefits of four specialty prescription drugs approved to treat ailments ranging from metabolic syndrome to platelet conditions: Micardis, Aggrenox, Atrovent and Combivent. |Keep Reading at NHPR

No Rigor in Timberlane’s Per Pupil Cost

The official Cost per Pupil report from the Department of  Education is now out. (DOE web site. Thanks to an alert resident who located the document even though it has not been linked from the usual DOE summary page.)

Timberlane’s Cost Per Pupil (2016/17) was $16,780.  That’s up by more than $1,000 from the previous year.  Since 2008, the Per Pupil Cost is up 59%. |Keep Reading at Timberlaneandsandown
