There is no hate speech exception to the First Amendment

There is no hate speech exception to the First Amendment. Hateful ideas (whatever exactly that might mean) are just as protected under the First Amendment as other ideas. One is as free to condemn, for instance, Islam — or Muslims, or Jews, or blacks, or whites, or illegal immigrants, or native-born citizens — as one is to condemn capitalism or socialism or Democrats or Republicans. As the Supreme Court noted in Christian Legal Society v. Martinez (2010), “this Court’s tradition of ‘protect[ing] the freedom to express ‘the thought that we hate”” includes the right to express even “discriminatory” “viewpoint[s].” More…

Parent and Certified Teacher from Pelham, NH Supports Choice

Katie, a certified teacher and Pelham resident … supports public education [but] she believes taxes should go to support the children as our educational dollars are intended. As a teacher she has seen how public education does not fit all students; it is unrealistic to expect public schools to meet all students’ needs. Katie also said that education reform efforts take years, but children have one chance at their K-12 education and don’t have years to hope those changes work for them. View at Source.

Portsmouth Sea Level Rise Fraud

Just for perspective, I’ve modified NOAA’s Sea Level Rise (SLR) graph (mostly to scale) for Portland ME to illustrate what needs to happen for the scaremongering climate cult’s mythical six feet of sea level rise to happen by 2100.

Portland, Maine has reported a very constant interglacial change of 1.87mm/year for the past 100+ years.  Seavy Island and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard have experienced a very steady 1.76/mm per year of SLR for the past 100+ years. Most, if not all of that is attributed to the land subsidence after the last ice age, something no amount of your money will change. More…

March for Science Modeled on Women Day March

The Women’s March was an anti-Donald Trump festival. Fine. I found it vulgar and demeaning to women, but it’s a free country.

Science, however, to be respected, must be purely the search for truth. The organizers of this “March for Science” — by acknowledging that their demonstration is modeled on the Women’s March — are contributing to the politicization of science, exactly what true upholders of science should be at pains to avoid. More…

NH Senate embraces deregulation of hair braiding

The State Senate took a giant step Thursday toward New Hampshire ending a mandate that those who braid hair must receive a state license to do so.

Without debate, senators made a minor change before they endorsed a bipartisan, House-passed bill (HB 82) to carve out natural or so-called, “African-style hair braiding” as an exemption from licensing by the state Board of Barbering, Cosmetology, and Esthetics. More…

4/20 pot celebrations marked by arrests at U.S. Capitol

Marijuana smoke-ins, street parties and concerts marked the informal 4/20 pot holiday across the country on Thursday, but police spoiled one cannabis event near the U.S. Capitol with arrests and seizure of joints.

To boos from onlookers, U.S. Capitol police led away pot activists who distributed joints to congressional staffers and others as part of a campaign to generate support for marijuana law reform in Congress. More…
