Voting today for vacant District 16 state Senate seat

MANCHESTER – Today is primary day in state Senate District 16, with the lone primary contest being between Democrats Kevin Cavanaugh and Jim Normand.

One of the Manchester men will face former Sen. David Boutin, R-Hooksett, and Jason Dubrow, L-Dunbarton, in a special election July 25.

The vacancy occurred with the sudden death of Sen. Scott McGilvray, D-Hooksett, in March. The district covers Bow, Candia, Dunbarton, Hooksett, and Manchester wards 1, 2 and 12. More…

Concord Refugee Faces Charges, Barriers, and Misunderstanding

The kids’ teachers had suspected child abuse, and contacted the Department of Child and Family Services. DCYF placed the children – who are 9 and 12 – first with relatives, then later with a foster family.

The agency instructed Chance not to contact her children, and according to her attorney, she didn’t.

A month later, Concord Police arrested Chance, charging her with five counts of assault against her children. If she is convicted, she could be deported.

People who know Chance say she should not have been arrested and never belonged in jail. More…

Official Resigns After Blaming Flint Water Crisis On ‘N****rs Who Don’t Pay Their Bills’

An official at an agency that manages foreclosed homes in Flint, Michigan, has resigned after a recording surfaced Sunday in which he blames the city’s water crisis on “n****rs who don’t pay their bills.”

Alcohol Fund Becomes Latest Political Battle for N.H. Lawmakers During Budget Process

When it comes to the opioid crisis, one would expect every state dollar allocated to the epidemic would be spent. That’s apparently not exactly what happened this fiscal year. A substantial surplus remains in the Alcohol Abuse Prevention and Treatment Fund, also known as the Alcohol Fund, and lawmakers are trying to pin the blame on almost everyone.

The Alcohol Fund was created in 2000 by the Legislature as a mechanism that takes 5 percent of the gross profits from the sale of alcohol to support education, prevention, treatment, and recovery programs for substance abuse, which encompasses alcohol and drug abuse. More…

Fugitive Sex Offender Wanted in NH, “Exposed” Himself at Karaoke Bar in Mass.

CONCORD, NH — A convicted child rapist was having apparently having time of his life at a Bay State bar on Saturday night participating as a karaoke contest until another patron at the pub reportedly recognized him as a fugitive from New Hampshire, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Ronald Duby Jr., 43, was arrested on June 3, 2017, on an outstanding warrant out of Hillsborough for failure to appear after allegedly failing to register as a sex offender.
