City Councilor Brad Lown said he might make a motion to put a referendum on the ballot to allow Keno gambling in Portsmouth if the city could receive some of the proceeds.

Not Unexpectedly: Government Policies Helped Create the Opioid Epidemic

For years, the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services included questions about pain management in patient satisfaction surveys that were linked to payment, encouraging a standard of patient-pleasing over good medicine. This fostered a culture that encouraged health care providers to offer pain-relieving prescriptions, popular with patients, without adequate regard for the potential long-term downside to these drugs. | More…

New Hampshire, Vermont govs agree to a race track showdown

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire’s governor and his Vermont counterpart are talking about facing off on the race track.

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu tweeted a challenge to fellow GOP Gov. Scott, who is one of Vermont’s most popular stock car racers, tweeted back “You’re on, @GovChrisSununu. But, I don’t just race cars… I’ll let you pick the vehicle.” | More…
