New RGGI plan calls for 30% cut in utility carbon emissions by 2030

The nine Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states participating in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative announced a set of proposals Wednesday for how the so-called “cap and trade” program could continue after 2020, when the current rules expire.

Hanover Veterans Non-Profit Shut Down For Financial Misdeeds

An Upper Valley nonprofit that serves veterans is being shut down after an investigation by the Attorney General’s office found evidence of fraud.

Project VetCare provides housing and support to military veterans, as well as a meeting place for students at Dartmouth College who are veterans. The non-profit, which was formed in 2012, owns two houses in Hanover.

Trump supporter speaks out about UNH campus experiences

Colin Raffio, a UNH junior finance major with a political science minor, had just finished his lunch at Holloway Commons on an early fall day when he started making his way toward the exit. Trump’s voter fraud commission to meet in New Hampshire in September

The Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, led by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Vice President Mike Pence, will meet at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., on Sept. 12 at 10 a.m., according to a notice in the Federal Register.

The first meeting, held in Washington, D.C., in July, was met with legal challenges from several groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed a complaint saying the meeting should be held in public. In response to an injunction sought by the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a federal judge ruled that livestreaming the event, which was held in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, was sufficient. | More…

Four NH businesses recognized for support of breastfeeding moms

The New Hampshire Breastfeeding Task Force recently awarded Southwestern Community Services, Goodwin Community Health, W.S. Badger and Hannaford’s Supermarket in Plymouth for their lactation support programs. All four businesses received the Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace award for developing a breastfeeding policy, allowing flexible break times and providing a designated private space for milk expression. | More…

Racial bias concerns still linger at UNH

DURHAM — Senior Megan Esperance, incoming co-chair of the Black Student Union, had never feared for her safety on the 91-percent white University of New Hampshire campus – until this past spring.

NH Fugitive Caught Hiding Inside Apartment

This week’s U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Fugitive of the Week is behind bars, according to Deputy Marshal Jeffrey White. Adam Walter Searles, 28, was arrested on Aug. 24, 2017, on an outstanding arrest warrant issued back in May by the Strafford County Superior Court for bail violations stemming from original charges of burglary, credit card fraud and drug offenses.

Searles, who has a number of priors, was featured yesterday and since that time, task force members – including members from the Strafford, Rockingham, Hillsborough and Belknap County Sheriff’s Offices, Federal Protective Service, along with deputy U.S. Marshals – “developed information indicating that Searles was residing with a known associate on Abbey Lane in Dover,” White stated. | More…
