NH CD-1 Candidate Eddie Edwards gives his perspective on Charlottesville

Republican Congressional candidate Eddie Edwards released a video this week defending his political party and calling into question the need for removing Confederate statues and monuments in the country.

In the video titled, “A Conservative’s Response to the Charlottesville Tragedy,” Edward thanked his grandmother for instilling him the values that made him a stronger person. Edwards, who lives in Dover, grew-up in Georgia. He came to the state when he was 19 after joining the Navy and has lived in the state since. | More…

Christian ministry sues over listing on Southern Poverty Law’s ‘hate map’

A conservative Christian media group has slapped the Southern Poverty Law Center with a defamation lawsuit after being listed alongside neo-Nazis and white supremacists on its “hate map.”

D. James Kennedy Ministries filed a lawsuit this week in federal court in Alabama alleging that the SPLC “illegally trafficked in false and misleading descriptions of the services” offered by the ministry, subjecting it to “disgrace, ridicule, odium, and contempt in the estimation of the public.”

“These false and illegal characterizations have a chilling effect on the free exercise of religion and on religious free speech for all people of faith,” said president and CEO Frank Wright in a Wednesday statement. | More…

The Den, UCLA’s student section of athletics, set off a firestorm of online mockery Tuesday when it tweeted, “USC. Oregon, Texas Lay Down Markers On Abortion Coverage

Last week, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, signed a bill generally prohibiting health insurers who offer individual and employer-based plans from covering abortion unless a woman’s life is in danger.

That same day, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, a Democrat, signed a bill requiring most health plans to cover reproductive health services, including contraceptive drugs, devices, and procedures, without charging consumers anything out-of-pocket. Abortion is one of those services. | More…

Dover Puts Kenokarten Funding on Ballot

DOVER, N.H. (AP) — Council members in a New Hampshire city will allow residents to determine if they will permit the gambling game Keno in restaurants and bars.

Foster’s Daily Democrat reports the Dover City Council unanimously approved the decision during a public hearing Wednesday. City residents will be able to vote on allowing the gambling game during the municipal election in November. | More…

Snowflakes Outraged: New Parking Plan ‘Not Fair’

Timothy Waryas, a senior and electrical engineering student said the changes will negatively impact students. He said many of the parking lots are near buildings that host evening activities that will no longer be accessible or affordable for those who commute to campus.

“Things like the MUB (Memorial Union Building), going to the gym, anything in the Thompson school,” Waryas said. “You’d have to pay upwards of $5 or $6 dollars daily.” | More…

New Hampshire to Defend Voter Law

The New Hampshire attorney general’s office says a new state law requiring voters who move to the state within 30 days of an election provide proof that they intend to stay is presumed to be constitutional and it intends to defend it vigorously.

The comment Wednesday came in response to a lawsuit filed by the head of New Hampshire’s Democratic Party challenging the law, saying it presents confusing, unnecessary and intimidating hurdles to voting. | More…
