I’ve already posted today on the topic of the potential for Franken to “un-resign.” He’d always only said he would resign in the coming weeks, so I presume it would be procedurally easy to decline to follow through on his earlier statement. What I’m putting up this post to discuss is the political future of Kirsten Gillibrand, who I think wants to run for President. The Best Bet On First Net

On December 7, Gov. Chris Sununu announced his intention to have New Hampshire opt out of the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet).  In theory, opting out of FirstNet would give the state greater control over its first responder radio network, a factor the governor mentioned in his announcement.  Unfortunately, because of the way FirstNet is legally structured, opting out creates numerous financial and operational risks for the state. | Keep Reading at Josiah Bartlet Center for Public Policy

Education savings accounts are the next stage in New Hampshire’s tradition of providing public funding for educational opportunities

Balsams Loan Guarantee Moves Ahead, But Financing Questions Remain

DIXVILLE NOTCH — The effort to reopen the Balsams Resort has taken a “significant step forward on financing” with a request for a loan guarantee being filed with the state’s Business Finance Authority, Scott Tranchemontagne, a spokesman for the resort developer, said Tuesday.

But the announcement also raised questions about whether developer Les Otten has the remainder of the $170 million needed for the first phase of the project, which Otten says will give the North Country a much-needed economic boost with a world-class, year-around resort.

State purchases 672 acres to create wildlife management area

RINDGE — New Hampshire Fish and Game now owns about 672 acres of land in Rindge and Fitzwilliam that it plans to call the Pearly Lake Wildlife Management Area.

Fish and Game purchased the property for $765,000 from a private land owner about two weeks ago. The majority of the land sits in Rindge and is named after Pearly Lake in Rindge, but is accessible via roads in Fitzwilliam — Ingalls Road and the Class VI portion of Bowers Hill Road and Old Rindge Road in Fitzwilliam. |More at New Hampshire.com

NH rep seeks to repeal state timber tax

The NH Timberland Owners Association doesn’t have any great love of the state timber tax, but they don’t like a bill that would repeal it.

House Bill 1470 would repeal the “normal yield tax on timber” because it is “discriminatory against tree farmers,” said the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Dick Marple, R-Hooksett. | Keep Reading at NHBR
