Gorham settles resident’s suit alleging violation of rights for $6,500

GORHAM — To “buy peace,” the town has settled a lawsuit brought by resident Robert Balon, who sought $875,000 in damages and to have Police Chief Paul Cyr Jr. fired for allegedly violating Balon’s “constitutional rights with demands and threats.”

Under the terms of the settlement agreement and general release filed May 17 in Coos County Superior Court and accepted by Judge Lawrence MacLeod, Balon, through attorney Seth Hipple, will receive $6,500 from Primex Inc., the town’s insurer. More…

NH Right to Life: Fetal Homicide Hearing on Tuesday

We need your help! Please contact members of the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee and ask them to support HB 156 – FN in its original form. This bill will offer justice and closure to families who lose a pre-born baby (8 weeks or older) due to a criminal act.

It is way past time New Hampshire join the 38 other states who currently have fetal homicide laws on the books.

Governor Sununu has promised his support of a fetal homicide bill here in New Hampshire.

Making Collective Bargaining Negotiations Public

Salaries and benefits are the biggest expenses in public education. They are also the biggest drivers for the continually increasing costs of running our schools with fewer and fewer students.

In my school district, salaries and assorted benefits will cost us $52 million next year. That’s 73% of our 17/18 budget. Despite this enormous expenditure by the public, there is no transparency whatsoever in how these salaries and generous benefits are arrived at with our teacher and support staff unions. More…
