Pope dubious of visions of Mary in Bosnian village

Pope Francis has voiced serious doubt about the authenticity of alleged continuing apparitions of the Madonna in Medjugorje, a once-obscure village in Bosnia boosted by the pilgrim business.

“These presumed apparitions don’t have a lot of value. This I say as a personal opinion,” he told reporters on his plane returning Saturday night from Portugal where he gave the Catholic Church two new child saints.

Six children first reported visions of the Virgin Mary in 1981 in a scenario reminiscent of famous apparitions in the French town of Lourdes in the 19th century and 100 years ago in Fatima, which Francis visited on Friday and Saturday. More…

What Happens When a Select-woman Challenges the Town of Piermont? – Part 5

First, there is the “View Tax”, or more correctly, the “view factor”, which, despite self-serving articles to the contrary that depict it as a useful tool for fairness in property assessment, it is seen in Piermont, as in other areas, for what it is – a duplicitous means for town and city governments to put an extra tax on desirable property to make up for the lack of a personal income tax in the state. Yesterday

Sunday, May 14th was not a great day for news. Finding stories worth sharing was like trying to drag the truth from Hillary Clinton. Damn near impossible.

Here’s to hoping today will be better.

This is how progressives undermine capitalism in the name of “character”

Here’s an odd little story for you this weekend which I ran across in the local press out of San Francisco. It really wouldn’t merit much national attention were it not such a sterling example of enshrined, liberal tribal beliefs being carried over in the real world to the point of self-ridicule. More…

Who’s Afraid of SB 8?

The first thing to know about SB 8 is that it affects only a small number of New Hampshire residents: those who live in school districts that don’t offer all grades from K through 12. There are currently 48 towns that fall into this category, with a total population of 111,070, which is about 8% of NH’s total population. If you live in a district that offers all grades in K-12, enacting this bill might provide more competition for your district’s schools. More…

Bring Sanity Back To Setting The Speed Limits On Our Highways

Around 1985 the NMSL was modified to allow states to set the speed limits in their highways up as high as 65MPH. Then Congress got around repealing the NMSL in 1995. The hew and cry from the Safety Nazis was loud and long, with claims that “blood would cover our streets and highways” with the higher speed limits. The reality – the number of traffic fatalities dropped.  More…
