Sanctuary cities & states may pick up tab for Trump’s Border Wall

This week, two GOP senators, Luther Strange of Alabama and David Perdue of Georgia, introduced a bill that would cut funding under two massive federal infrastructure and transportation programs to any jurisdictions “that refuse to cooperate with the federal government on immigration matters or retaliate against border security contractors.” Strange and Perdue propose to take the money that would have gone to sanctuary jurisdictions and use it to help pay for the wall. Trump nominates Bedford’s Rich Ashooh for Commerce post

BEDFORD — University Systems of New Hampshire executive and former congressional candidate Rich Ashooh of Bedford is President Trump’s nominee to be assistant commerce secretary heading up export administration.

Last fall, Ashooh opposed the renomination of then-Republican Congressman Frank Guinta of Manchester and lost in that GOP primary. Democrat Carol Shea-Porter of Rochester recaptured the First Congressional District seat by unseating Guinta last November. More…

Schools forced to address ‘lunch shaming’

It was lunchtime one school day in February, and Don Re’s 13-year-old daughter was looking forward to eating the hot French dip sandwich sitting on her lunch tray.

But when she got to the front of the cafeteria line to pay for her lunch, the food service worker at La Salle Springs Middle School in the Rockwood school district didn’t let her eat the sandwich, Re said, because she owed $2.20 in her meal account. BEDFORD — Police recovered a bank card skimming device Friday morning on a Service Credit Union ATM on Colby Court.
