Lawmakers Vote To Make California A ‘Sanctuary State’

California is poised to become a so-called “sanctuary state” after its legislature passed a bill Saturday that would establish new protections for people who entered the country illegally and send a clear signal of defiance against the Trump administration’s tough approach to immigration enforcement.

The “California Values Act” would forbid state and local law enforcement agencies from providing information to or acting as the deputies for federal immigration authorities. The bill also prohibits police and sheriff officers from inquiring about a person’s immigration status. | More…

Hampton wants reimbursement from state for beach calls

HAMPTON (AP) — The town of Hampton is going to court in hopes of getting reimbursed for services it provides at the state-owned Hampton Beach.

The beach is owned and operated by the state, but if someone calls 911 from the beach, the town responds. Hampton fire officials told New Hampshire Public Radio that in the last four years, they’ve spent more than $700,000 responding to emergency calls at the beach, while the state collects millions of dollars in parking revenue. | Home

Boston police arrest, charge man in murder of NH woman

Boston authorities have charged a man with Sunday’s murder of two people, including Michaela Gingras, 24, a Manchester, N.H., native who grew up in Goffstown and who was found shot in a Dorchester apartment building.

Lance Holloman, 30, was arrested on multiple charges alleging the murders of Gingras and motorcyclist Scott M. Stevens Jr., who was killed hours after Gingras was shot. Holloman has a record that includes arrests in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. | More…

NH State Police planning Sobriety Checkpoint in Gilford

Belknap County Superior Court officials granted the order for the sobriety checkpoint because they believe it is an effective method of detecting and apprehending the impaired operators.
The New Hampshire State Police have taken an aggressive stance on preventing intoxicated operators all across the Granite State, they said in a press release. | NH1

NH HAS 11TH LOWEST OBESITY RATE IN U.S.

According to a new report, New Hampshire has the 11th lowest obesity rate in the United States.

The report was prepared by the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

West Virginia has the highest obesity rate, while Colorado has the lowest.  Massachusetts has the 3rd lowest obesity rate in the U.S., Connecticut has the 10th lowest, Rhode Island tied New Hampshire in 11th place, Vermont came in 13th, and Maine scored 26th. | More…
