Swastika painted on Portsmouth tree investigated

PORTSMOUTH — Police are investigating the spray-painting of a swastika on an Osprey Landing tree, alarming a resident who discovered it. The incident could be prosecuted as a hate crime, said Lt. Michael Maloney.

The swastika was reported to police on Tuesday, but could have been painted before that time because the tree is not in a highly-visible location, Maloney said. An initial report was taken Tuesday and officers returned to canvas the neighborhood on Wednesday, he said. | More…
