New Transportation Options Available in the Lebanon-Hanover Area

Need a ride? Uber is open for business (officially) in Lebanon and Hanover New Hampshire.

People in the Lebanon-Hanover area have a couple of new options when it comes to hailing a cab.

Uber officially launched in the area Monday, but the ride-sharing service has been picking up passengers for weeks.

Meanwhile, three Lebanon residents have started the D.A.S.H. Transportation Co., a car service that stands for “Dependable Affordable Safe Hometown.”

Rob Taylor, executive director for the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce, said the area has a need for transportation options.

New Hampshire Jobs American’s Wont Do?

The Concord Monitor milks the narrative.

Their long hours of milking, cleaning the parlor, breeding cows and herding the animals are an essential part of how milk makes it into New Hampshire’s grocery stores.

But those farm laborers – often immigrants with forged or expired documents – are worried about doing their own shopping at the supermarket these days for fear of deportation.

Farmers here and across the country are concerned about losing their workers, too, as the dairy community waits to see to what extent President Donald Trump’s immigration executive orders will be carried out.

Street Harassment “Awareness” Too Offensive for UNH Students

I learned two things I didn’t know from this article. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and April 2-8 is International Anti-Street Harassment Week. That’s actually a thing.

The Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention Program (SHARPP) installed a display on the third floor of the Memorial Union Building (MUB) on Friday, March 17, to kick off their street harassment awareness and prevention campaign. By the end of the day, the installment was dismantled after receiving negative reactions and feedback from university administration and students, according to Dean of Students Ted Kirkpatrick.

1100 Acres in Charlestown NH Locked Up as Conservation Land

Making a donation of land for “conservation” sounds great until local residents discover the impact on the tax base.

CHARLESTOWN, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire couple has donated 1,100 acres to the Upper Valley Land Trust for permanent conservation, the largest donation in the organization’s history.

WMUR Gives Life to Dem State Party Chair’s Non-Story

Failed Candidate for Chair of the National Democrat Party Ray Buckley gets back to doing the people’s work here in New Hampshire.

“[NH Democrat Party Chair Ray]…Buckley has filed an ethics complaint claiming that by tweeting Waterville Valley has “the best snow NH has to offer” [Gov.] Sununu “provided Waterville Valley with a marketing platform that excluded every other competitor.”

Ward 8 Manchester New Hampshire House Rep. Steve Vaillancourt has died. The cause of death was not included in the report.

State Rep. Steve Vaillancourt, a colorful, dogged, and often contrarian politician from Manchester, died Monday.
Vaillancourt, a Republican and former Manchester alderman, was a veteran legislator who served on the House Finance Committee.

Prostitution and Human Trafficking in New Hampshire

Looks like New Hampshire chose an outspoken advocate of decriminalizing prostitution to lead its Human Trafficking Collaborative Task Force Advisory Committee. Can you say, disconnect?

Decriminalizing pimping and the sex trade would tie the hands of investigators. The buyers and the sellers would be able to continue their devastating business, while victims would have no clear way out. Sex trafficking is not an event, but a process and the results of that process. Sex trafficking cannot exist without the existence of prostitution.

Did the Cheshire County NH Sheriff Create a Sanctuary for Illegal Immigrants?

Sheriff Rivera has said his department will not go out of its way to identify or detain illegals (in the course of day-to-day interaction), which has undertones of “sanctuary” but he is not preventing their identification and deportation by others. He isn’t hiding them. He isn’t hampering others.
