Politicians forbid me from filming a state budget meeting. So I wait right outside to question both perps from the meeting and random state reps about this. None from the meeting act like they know NH RSA Section 91-A:2, II…which reads in part:
“all meetings…shall be open to the public…Any person shall be permitted to use recording devices, including, but not limited to, tape recorders, cameras, and videotape equipment, at such meetings.”
During the hearing, the chair claimed “photography” was not allowed.
Let It Shine is seeking city approval of a small-scale Keene Pumpkin Festival. In a letter to the mayor and city council Tuesday, Let It Shine member Timothy Zinn is proposing the festival take place on Sunday, Oct. 29.

Police have identified the man found dead inside a house that exploded in Salem on Monday.
The body of the homeowner, Charles Hill, 55, was found Tuesday in the basement, with a rifle, a handgun and numerous rounds of ammunition nearby and a heavy odor of gasoline. Police said he shot and killed himself. Keep reading…

Democrats and conservative representatives banded together to overwhelmingly defeat the $11.9 billion budget proposal put forward by Republican House leaders.
It failed in a 224–134 vote, dealing a blow to Speaker Shawn Jasper that reveals lingering fractures within the GOP.
The budget proposal would have sent $50 million to towns and cities for property tax relief, launched a new welfare-to-work pilot program and provided no money for full-day kindergarten. Democrats said it spent too little on education and mental health services, while conservatives complained the budget spent far too much, though they offered few areas for cuts. Sixty-six Republicans joined with most House Democrats to defeat the budget, in what one GOP representative called an “intra-party squabble.”
There is a group of NH House members, the NH House Freedom Caucus, who have seen the proposed 10.5% increase in General Fund spending for the next biennium and they are preparing to limit that spending by standing together to oppose it. NH taxpayers should support them.
It is hard to believe as we finish Town and School Meetings across this state that a 10.5% increase in State General Fund spending is even being considered. The rate of inflation estimates for our State is a third of that amount. How are seniors and people on fixed or limited incomes to keep up? Read More…

Former law enforcement professional Eddie Edwards on Wednesday became the first Republican to announce a candidacy for the 1st District U.S. House seat, promising to run a positive campaign and, if elected in 2018, to serve with integrity.

In a two-page memo released Monday, [US Attorney General Jeff] Sessions said agreements reached previously between the department’s civil rights division and local police departments — a key legacy of the Obama administration — will be subject to review by his two top deputies, throwing into question whether all of the agreements will stay in place.
The memo was released not long before the department’s civil rights lawyers asked a federal judge to postpone until at least the end of June a hearing on a sweeping police reform agreement, known as a consent decree, with the Baltimore Police Department that was announced just days before President Trump took office.
