Three senior House Democrats asked U.S. teachers Monday to destroy a book written by climate scientists challenging the environmentalist view of global warming.
The Democrats were responding to a campaign by the conservative Heartland Institute copies of the 2015 book, “Why Climate Scientists Disagree About Global Warming” to about 200,000 science teachers. Democratic Reps. Bobby Scott of the Committee on Education, Raúl M. Grijalva of the Committee on Natural Resources, and Eddie Bernice Johnson of the Committee on Science, Space and Technology all issued a statement telling teachers to trash the book. Keep Reading…

A judge has ruled in favor of attorney Alex Walker in his defamation lawsuit against a mortgage broker who in posts on an electronic billboard has repeatedly accused Walker and other local business leaders of criminal activity.
Superior Court Judge N. William Delker said that Michael Gill has not provided any evidence showing any validity to the controversial posts.
“Gill has failed to meet his burden of proof as to the defense of truth as there is no evidence to support any plausible inference that the plaintiff engaged in the conduct alleged by Gill,” Delker wrote in a ruling filed last week. Keep Reading…

Police and rescue personnel responded to the training facility at 233 Exeter Road just before noon after receiving a report of a man with a gunshot wound to his lower right calf.
Police Capt. Jason Newman said the accidental shooting happened while the man was holstering a handgun during civilian training. Initial reports were the victim is 59 years old, but Newman was unable to confirm the age. More…

Consistent funding policies and more locally sourced funding, mean more taxes. Local taxes. Like a sales or income tax that can be adjusted (always upward) to address the whims of public employees (including civil engineers).
