Egypt carries out air strikes after militants kill Christians

CAIRO — Egyptian air force planes on Friday carried out strikes directed at camps in Libya which Cairo says have been training militants who killed dozens of Christians earlier in the day, Egyptian military sources said.

For real change, make local elections a top priority

Like many Americans, I voted for local elections based upon name recognition, party affiliation, or whether or not I’d received a flyer or received a knock on my door. I spoke to a woman the other day who said she voted for whoever had a sign in her next-door neighbor’s yard because “that lady keeps up with this stuff.”

Labor board dismisses union charges against Sununu

CONCORD — In a split decision, a state labor relations board Friday sided with Gov. Chris Sununu and ruled all five labor unions representing state workers must jointly negotiate with state managers about new collective bargaining contracts.

The State Employees Association and the New England Police Benevolent Association had filed unfair labor practice charges against Sununu after the governor’s negotiating team refused to continue bargaining on salary and benefit issues with those unions. More…

Judge overturns life without parole sentence for DC sniper Lee Boyd Malvo

– A federal district court judge has overturned the sentence of Lee Boyd Malvo, one of the two people convicted in D.C.-area Beltway sniper attacks nearly 15 years ago, according to a ruling released Friday.

Malvo was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the sniper-style attacks committed around the region in October 2002 along with John Allen Muhammad. Ten people were killed and three others were shot during a three-week period. More…
