Man arrested after 7-hour standoff, faced robbery charges

HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — A man wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Massachusetts has been ordered held without bail on his arrest in Hampton, New Hampshire, following a seven-hour standoff.

Police say 22-year-year-old Michael Ellis, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, faces fugitive from justice and resisting arrest charges. SWAT team members surrounded a house he was in and blocked of the area. They eventually entered the house, finding him hiding. | More…

Owner confident Warner gun range will pass

Despite more than two months of discussion and a pending court case involving his application for an indoor gun range and retail store in Warner, Dragonfly Holdings LLC owner Eric Miller said he isn’t worried.

He’s so confident the Warner planning board will approve his application during their next meeting on June 19, Miller said he is holding fast to his June 20 closing date for the sale of the proposed site with property owner Richard George of Webster.

Body of Hinsdale man recovered from Connecticut River

The body of a Hinsdale man was pulled from the Connecticut River Thursday evening.

The man was identified as Andrew Laffond, 29. Laffond and a friend had been walking on an abandoned railroad trestle that spans the Connecticut River between Hinsdale and Brattleboro, Vermont, on Wednesday night when Laffond fell into the river at approximately 8:15 p.m. | More…

UNH Reports Zero “Hate Crimes” To Feds

The Boston Globe — The University of New Hampshire saw a wave of ugly incidents in May, including swastikas and a racial slur scrawled in dormitories, the newspaper reported. Months earlier, the campus was among those that were roiled by a series of hateful incidents as reports of racial epithets, spitting and bullying followed November’s presidential election.

But official university records filed with the federal government do not include a single report of a hate incident occurring on the Durham campus between 2001 and 2015. Hanover: Dresden School District Considers Adopting Gun Policy

Hanover — Members of the Dresden School Board are moving to adopt a policy to prohibit members of the public from bringing firearms onto Hanover school campuses after a concern about guns in schools arose in nearby Orford.

Dresden School Board Chairman Neil Odell said the board moved swiftly on the topic and had a first reading of a draft policy last month. | More…

DOJ ordered to stop mortgage settlement money flowing into “left-wing activist organizations”

For the last few years, some of the largest settlements between financial institutions and the Obama administration’s Department of Justice contained stipulations that portions of the money be sent to unaffiliated third parties, a practice that Republicans criticized as a “slush fund” operation.

Some prominent Republicans, like House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, R-TX, said that the Obama administration was using the settlements to funnel money to organizations that were friendly to Democrats. | More…

Hampstead man indicted on Section 8 fraud, forgeries …

HAMPSTEAD — A Hampstead man has been charged with multiple counts of fraud and forgery in order to obtain Section 8 benefits for tenants in his Lawrence apartment buildings.

Edward Bonaccorsi, 54, was indicted Wednesday by an Essex County grand jury on six counts of forgery, six counts of uttering a forged record and five counts of procurement fraud. | More…

Democrat rep apologizes after parking in middle of 2 handicapped spots at hospital

CONCORD — State Rep. James MacKay, D-Concord, is apologizing after a photo surfaced of his car parked over the line in a handicapped parking spot at Concord Hospital on Sunday.

MacKay said he was at the hospital for a meeting and parked up front, but the front doors were locked because it was the weekend. He has difficulty walking and does have a handicapped placard. He said he didn’t notice how poorly he parked until he returned to his vehicle. | More…

Glock and Spiel Fails to Turn Fed’s Heads From Sig Sauer

The U.S. government this week denied an appeal by firearms maker Glock to reconsider choosing its rival Sig Sauer’s P-320 pistol worth up to about $580 million.

The Army originally chose the gun in January, but Glock appealed the decision, leading to the ruling by the Government Accountability Office.

Sig Sauer is a privately held German firm. It will manufacture the guns in its U.S. subsidiary’s New Hampshire plant. More…
