Six-term Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the influential Republican who has clashed with presidents of both parties over national security and foreign policy, has been diagnosed with brain cancer, his office said in a statement Wednesday night.

The cancer was discovered after minor surgery last week to remove a blood clot above the left eye of the 80-year-old chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and 2008 Republican presidential nominee, according to the Mayo Clinic. | More…
