Police directed to stop people from jumping off Portsmouth bridge

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Police in the New Hampshire city of Portsmouth will now be required to stop people from jumping off a popular bridge used to cool off during the summer.

The Portsmouth Herald reports city officials posted signs prohibiting jumping and diving from the Sagamore Avenue Bridge. Many people used the bridge to leap into the tidal creek below in order to cool off. Complaints to police about bridge jumpers went unanswered before Monday. | More…
