The largest deal in Stem Cell research history is under way between two bio-techs who are prepared to invest 1.4 billion of their own money in the joint venture.  Genzyme and Osiris are coordinating an effort to bring the next two stem cell drugs through the end stages of their trials and on to market– Prochymal and Chondrogen.

 While this could be the beginning of a new wave of such partnerships, democrats might want to take note:  these are private companies, investing their billions, and they are developing these new drugs with those other stem cells.  You know, the ones that actually produce cures.  The ones that come from Jeanne Shaheen, and the other so called adults in the government, not from harvested embryos. 

(That’s right–Adult Stem cells)

 This would bring the number of viable cures and treatments developed from adult stem cells to at least 80, with roughly 1200 more FDA approved clinical trials currently under way.

 Embryonic stem cell research, by comparison, has yet to produce one single treatment or cure that I am aware of.  The distinction is critical because our newly minted Senator elect, Jeanne Shaheen, has promised she’d try to pump 12 billion into the National Science Foundation specifically for embryonic stem cell research.  Is she dumb enough to keep the promise?  She certainly is.

The abortion lobby, democrats, and the media have been selling the nation on the promise of embryonic stem cell (ESC) research without any actual evidence or any real benefits.  (So far none)  And it looks like the only scientists they have who still support these claims are what we could only refer to now as “Big Embryo.”  Those few and far between bio-techs or vested individuals looking for success on the embryonic lines, who are really just talking big while they wait patiently for Jeanne and the Democrats to write them a big tax payer funded check for billions to support research most other companies have abandoned already.  

It all really makes you want to ask why–if its so great–the abortion lobby doesn’t just fund it with the billions they dump into democrat campaigns instead?

So what are democrats trying to buy you?  Well it might be important to know that  for ESC’s to do all the things their supporters claim they can or will do, one of the first things you have to do is develop them into adult stem cells.    Go ahead and read it again.  OK? Some things really are so dumb that only a democrat would believe them. 

You heard right.  Embryonic stem cells will only work as advertised (in theory) after being grown into adult cells.  But they still have this problem with mutations, forming tumors when implanted int mature tissue, that act like cancer, and thats’ just a huge problem.  But this is not a problem with adult stem cells, which can actually be converted into the same kind of stem cell types that attracted researchers to the embryonic variety in the first place. Adult cell lines are also getting easier and cheaper to produce.

Embryonic cells are still extremely difficult and expensive to develop, and have yet to overcome any of the hurdles that are driving researchers away from them in droves.  As far as I can tell the only thing  ESC’s will do is separate the American Tax payer from billions of dollars–through the greedy hands of democrats–all to be bet on an expensive nag that can’t even run the race. (Not Shaheen, ESC’s)

So are Democrats complete idiots, or do they have another agenda.  How about both? 

My suggestion?  Keep those cards and letter heading off to your Senators and congressman.  Do your own research. Send them the details. Email them the facts.  And don’t let up.  Its your money and the democrats are just dying to waste it on something that makes the abortion lobby happy.
