Trapped in a ‘Webb’ of deception

Merrimack, August 7th: In a letter by Fred Morse, posted at the Merrimack Journal on-line (I don’t know if it made the print edition) Mr. Morse quotes the BBC’s Justin Webb to justify his interpretation of some things McCain has said that they (Fred and Justin) both seem to believe only serves the terrorist’s warlike nature. That because of this McCain could be a dangerous president to have.  He quotes Webb…

“Islamic terrorists want war.  They want suffering – among others and their own people alike. They would surely surmise that McCain will give them what they want. I think al-Qaeda would back McCain.”

Justin isn’t even equipped to get it, and Fred can’t be bothered to do more than quote the man to justify his own agenda.  Learn why on the jump…

Justin Webb is a Washington correspondent for the BBC and your typical Anti-American European elitist with a deep disdain for our quaint little culture and our backward ways.  Just Google him if you don’t believe me.  He is your average anti-war BBC correspondent who does not care much for President Bush taking a stand, or from what I can gather taking a stand on anything regarding Muslims except appeasement.  He doesn’t like Texas, he doesn’t like guns, and he clearly doesn’t understand America.

Justin is just a product of an English culture that has already given up, so any obvious attempt on our part at resistance is viewed as some testosterone infected war-mongering obsession.  And to talk so openly about a commitment to long term resistance is, to his ears, insanity.  Sorry Justin, we just happen to value our culture enough to fight for it.  I hear Canada is big on appeasement; maybe Toronto needs another BBC correspondent.

The second problem, even if we ignore Webb as a source, is that Fred’s premise assumes that anything we say or do will actually have some impact, any impact, on what these fanatical Muslims will and won’t do. The fact is it won’t. To quote the much quoted Hussein Massawi of Hezbollah regarding their global struggle against the west.

“We are not fighting so that you will offer us something.  We are fighting to eliminate you.”

They don’t want concessions Fred, unless it’s total surrender.

So I’m sure McCain knew exactly what he was doing when he said he’d continue the fight if that’s what we needed, because he’s not living in some closet with Obama and the appeasement lobby.  He understands the commitment of our enemies; that they don’t care if we fight, they don’t care if they die, they don’t care if we die, or if we lie down and give up, as long as they think we can lose, they will fight to win.

Look at how the terrorist came to Iraq, declared that it was the front line of their great war against us, but eventually got slaughtered.  When they saw they couldn’t win, they stopped coming.  They started running back to Iran and away to Pakistan.  Why?  Because the only thing a militant middle-eastern tribal culture respects is superior strength.  We finally showed up with it.  We stood up with the Iraqis, and they found some hope for their own way.  Will it last?  That depends on if they can maintian a show of force built on the will of all Iraqis.

But in this war, and it is a war, we have to say we’ll use force, that we will never stop using force, that we will protect ourselves and our allies when needed, and then prove it.  Can you see Obama taking that stand?  What solution can the smooth talking appeaser offer America when confronted with this…

“We are not fighting so that you will offer us something.  We are fighting to eliminate you.”

This is what we are up against.  So who’s really dangerous now?
