Jeanne Shaheen on the economy (from jeanneshaheen.org)
It’s time our economy worked for middle class families again. For the past seven years, wages have remained stagnant while the price of everything else – from a gallon of gas to a gallon of milk – has gone through the roof.
Liar! It’s only been 2 years not 7.
Prior to 2006 we had historically low 4.5% unemployment, the Dow was at 14,000, and gas was $2.00/gallon. Wage growth was slow but steady (and actually above average in New Hampshire) behind 24 consecutive quarters of GDP growth, and there was a very real upward mobility from both the lower and middle classes to the middle and upper classes. So what happened?
Democrats took control of congress. Since 2006, gas has doubled in price, unemployment is at 5.6%, and the Dow is down 2000 points. None of this has been good for the Middle Class. All of it came on the Democrats watch, and because congress sets all fiscal and spending policy it’s clear who must be held responsible. so I’m thinking the one thing New Hampshire families do not need is another democrat in congress.
