So the oil companies are evil for failing to drill on land of which the US Department of Energy has this to say…
Remaining U.S. oil fields are becoming increasingly costly to produce because much of the easy-to-find oil has already been recovered.
But the democrats are not evil for refusing to support this now obvious “doubling of domestic production” at any point in say, the past 30 years? Wouldn’t that have helped the middle class before it was politically convenient? And shouldn’t we consider this as evidence of very poor planning by Democrats when it comes to short and long term energy management? So you were just letting energy prices skyrocket until you got good poll numbers?
I have to confess that this sudden change in direction sounds insincere to me, particularly since it just happens to come on the heels of recent polling which shows that Americans overwhelmingly favor increased drilling. Apparently the democrat policy on energy continues to be what they think, we think is important today, instead of what we elected them for, which was to make decisions based on the long term strategic needs of our nation in an expanding and competitive global energy market.
China and Cuba will be drilling our oil off the Florida coast, and China is investing heavily in Africa, making long term energy deals to support their strategic and economic growth for the coming century, while we are sitting on billions of barrels of crude and the Democrats are wetting their pants because the latest opinion poll says we want to drill and they are all in hock to the environmental lobby. So instead of making us competitive and using our potential oil wealth to fund their crazy renewable policies (or some that will actually work), we get the consolation prize. “If you work real hard, you might get some oil out of that rock over there.”
It should not surprise me that their “solution” will be more difficult, cost more money, and result in significantly less production. The stool of democrat polices rests on the triad of creating more government bureaucracy to make things more difficult, and making everything cost more money than it has to, just so we can produce less of an inferior product.
Democrat energy policy is obviously not based on anything concrete. It remains fleeting and subject to amendment each and every day. If we did a poll and found out Americans thought that the little stirs you get to mix your coffee were the answer, we’d have the Democrat coffe stir energy initiative all over tomorrows front page. By the same token if oil drops below $100/barrel before another drop of this precious commodity is extracted, Jeanne and her keepers will jump off the “Drill there because we say so” tour bus faster than Bill Clinton can deny impropriety. It is only another 4 million barrels, after all, and the US consumes at least 20 million per day. Drilling won’t help, just like we said. Let’s just milk woodchucks, I mean wood-chips instead.
