Talk radio as performance art.

Speak no evil

The  ‘Fairness Doctrine would force private businesses to use their money and their time in a manner defined by the federal government.   If station owners with right leaning content did not include political content that toes the Democrat party line, they might not be allowed to broadcast any political content at all, could get fined, taken to court, or have their license pulled or denied by the FCC.

 So what’s the big deal?

The first amendment was written to protect exactly this kind of political speech from oppression by the government.  So have the liberals overstepped their bounds when it comes to Talk radio–which is nothing but political speech?

What the …?

it is obvious that the left abuses the first amendment to advance their agenda so lets examine that.

Democrats would (will, or have) fought tooth and nail to remove privately funded displays of the Ten commandments (among other things) from public property—under the pretense that it represents a prohibited form of religious establishment—but at the same time, fight tooth and nail to protect (as free speech)  tax payer funded displays (which they call a work of art) with Christian religious themes, that include urine or feces.  Are they both religious?  Are they both art?  Well, actually, the latter is offensive and disgusting–and coincidentally not hate speech–words liberals don’t like alone or strung together in a sentence–but that’s another journey into hypocrisy for a different time.

So why is one protected, and not the other?  Because one is offensive to liberals and the other might be offensive to non-liberals.  So the standard is not what is constitutional, the standard is whatever best suits the current liberal agenda. So their Constitution is not just living, it’s two-faced as well.

What’s Up-Chuck?

Next Up-Chuck Schumer now likens right wing talk radio to pornography of all things.  He argues that they are essentially the same from a regulatory stand-point, and should be managed similarly.   I’m not sure how his addled brain has made this Biden-like connection, but I’ll play along.

According to most liberals and other constitutional mental deficients, Pornography is protected speech.  The only limitations it really has are based on age; who can legally be in it, and who can legally view it.

In all instances regarding consumption—the Left argues–it must be reasonable to allow the sale of pornography by anyone who wishes to sell it, to anyone who wishes to buy it, as long as retailers and legal guardians observe the posted age restrictions with little else in the way of influence or obstruction by the government. So as long as there is a sign by the door that leads to the special room out back that says, “You must be at least this old to enjoy this liberal hypocrisy,” the left is good.

But no one is actually required to buy it.  No one is making you buy it.  No one is making you look, watch or listen to it.  That’s what the Left says when people object to things the left wants or like.  “We just think it should be made available to anyone who want’s it–just like abortions” so they can decide what’s right for them.”  But not so with talk radio?

When you buy porn you are not expected to purchase contrasting content, are you?  it does not have to have non-porn content in it.  You do not need to buy a copy of a magazine or a movie filled with beautiful people wearing clothes, to buy a magazine or a movie with naked people in it?  You just need to be at least 18 years old.  Right?  That’s the ‘regulation’ Schumer is relating this too.

But that’s not what the fairness doctrine does Senator, is it?

And to compound the hypocrisy, any objections to these limited regulations regarding porn are attacked viciously by the left as attempts to violate the first amendment by book burners and censors, who are denying ‘Americans” their fundamental right to free speech and press.

Not so with talk radio comrade Schumer?   Porn is protected speech, but political speech Chuck Schumer doesn’t like, can’t even get the same fair shake as he would give to porn?

Would someone please inspect Senator Schumer for a head injury.

So is the Fairness doctrine regulating talk radio like porn?  Not even close.

But why stop there?

We have a similar situation–one more closely related to radio–where people are confronted with material they find inappropriate or objectionable on television.  Here again, the Left tells us “No one is making you watch it.  Just change the channel.”

“Now there are hundreds of channels to choose from.  Why should we regulate all them simply because you are put off by a few shows or a few channels?”  Great question.

As R. Limbaugh pointed out, there are some 2000 radio stations broadcasting every kind of content you can imagine, across each 24 hour day.  Why regulate talk radio when you could just turn the channel?

Because talk radio is viewed as a threat to the liberal agenda.  And this is exactly what the 1st amendment was established to protect.  But didn’t you guys just take control of the entire government?  With talk radio unregulated?

You can’t win with these morons can you?

So consumers and parents, who are left to make decisions for themselves and their children when it comes to non-political speech, will not, or can not, be permitted by liberals, to do so when it comes to conservative talk radio.  It is not censorship, and it does not violate the protections of the First amendment, and is nothing short of fairness.  (Go ahead and scratch your head.  It is that simple.  It is that stupid.)

Please pass the urine

In the mean time,  we could hope for a citizen revolt or a successful filibuster in the Senate.   There also might be a loophole if talk radio officially re-defines itself as “political performance art.”  Once you’ve got funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the liberals have think twice or they could lose their cherished dung as free speech advantage.

That will of course never work.  As we can see rules only apply when filtered through thier worldview so keep a jar of urine handy in the studio just in case that doesn’t work out.  Just don’t drop your obligatory Obama action figure in there by mistake when you here the boots stomping up the stairs.  That might send the wrong message.
