The New Media Militia

The New Hampshire Union leader is reporting this morning that a US judge in Boston has found DOMA, the Federal Defense of Marriage Act, to be unconstitutional on the grounds that it prevents the state from administering federal aid to gay married couples.  His ruling only affects Massachusetts but clearly has broader implications.

I both agree and disagree.  It has always been my position that the states interest is limited to the contract of union.  As such my objection has never been to civil unions–which people of all “orientations” have access to in New Hampshire–but to the state forcing a modification of the religious concept of marriage.  It was an unnecessary political stunt.  Religions should be free to decide for themselves whom they will marry and the state should then be obligated to acknowledge that religious contract like any other legal union of consenting adults.

In reality, we should not even need DOMA, but the lefts lawsuit culture made it necessary and as with most federal law it invariably overreaches.  DOMA’s only purpose should be to protect states rights to make these definitions on their own, defending them from interlopers who move into the state and continually sue in an effort to subvert the will of the people who live there.   Instead we got another law that also defines where and how federal dollars may be spent–a dependency problem in and of itself, created by big government progressives on both sides of the aisle for this very purpose; to force states to comply to interpretations from central planners outside their political borders.

In the end, I agree that Massachusetts has the right to define what contracts it will honor and how–though it would be nice if the SJC (and the judicial system in general) would let the people decide these things themselves.  It should also be free to decide what benefits they are entitled to when that money comes from inside the state. But when it comes to federal money, well, it’s not their money anymore is it?

Massachusetts obligation is to spend federal money the way every other state does as defined by the central government it has coddled and grown for decades.  And while this is clearly an effort to take DOMA to task by starting in a environment hostile to it, the Bay State has no majority standing on how it can spend other peoples money.  Dependency comes with a responsibility to the will of others.  So as long as Massachusetts has to pimp itself out just to get by, all I have to say is too damn bad.

Just a reminder for those who have not yet figured this out. Everything Obama and his minions have done and will do, the obvious lies, the incompetence, the spending, the actions in opposition to overwhelming public opinion, all of it, is for but one purpose.  They need to incite enough violent behavior so they can use the government to lock down the nation.  Don’t get me wrong.  If we let them they will still lock it down one bill at a time with legislation if they have to, but there’s no guarantee that they will ever have an opportunity like this again.

Don’t give it to them.

You still have a right to peaceful revolution so keep your powder dry.  Use the ballot box.  Vote the bastards out.

ONE! Singular Deception…

The ONE campaign is back in New Hampshire and looking for fresh souls to trap in its twisted web of deception.  While liberals are always ripe for a sob story ONE is always looking for unsuspecting so-called conservatives and republicans to call friend.  And the GOP is easy pray.  After years of being framed by the media as cold-hearted war mongers who spend long days smoking cigars and oppressing the worlds poor for the gain of their corporate paymasters, nothing looks better to them than being seen with a group like ONE campaign.

The Hodes campaign has made its priorities clear.  I’m referring to the attack ads on Republican primary candidate Kelly Ayotte, whom they have for whatever reason anointed as the primary winner.

 

What does this tell us about Paul Hodes?  Nothing we did not already know.

He intends to distort the facts in pursuit of political power.  He will lie either by omission or just outright.  He is unwilling to listen or wait for the will of the public.  He is sticking to the party talking points.  His campaign is so desperate that it has to go negative before he even has an opponent.  He needs an ignorant uninformed electorate to win.

But this is exactly who Paul Hodes is.  He is the political rebound date no one ever really wanted; a congressman of convenience who simply had connections to the Shaheen cabal, and their big blue bug light to attracted enough out of state money to put up a fight.  He is a party hack who can neither claim to be an independent voice, nor a bulwark against irresponsible spending.  His charade at earmark, budget and ethics reform are entirely partisan and as thin as tissue paper.  He has run away from ethics, voted for other people’s earmarks, and added perhaps as much as a trillion in new “emergency” spending since the re-re-implementation of the sham known as pay-go.  He voted for all the “irresponsible spending” after 2006, and at least three times as much since Obama. He deems things passed, having no spine or principle to prove he cans stand up for what he claims he believes.   And then he hides from his own constituents unless they are “his” constituents, the less than one-third of New Hampshire and the left wing elites that protect his incompetence because the party has left them with no one else to back.

The Ayotte attack ads bring all of this to light.  Hodes has nothing else he can run on because the majority of New Hampshire does not like what he has done.  So he’ll have to do what he does best.  Play Hidey-Hodes, misrepresent his record, and lie about his opponents in the hope that people stop paying attention again long enough for him to squeak into the Senate.

They are making hay and BS sandwiches over at Boo-Hoo Hampshire, this time about the latest unemployment benefits stalemate.   Dean was just waxing on CBS news coverage and decided to lament 30 years of GOP policy crushing the little guy, and how even now they are somehow still pulling the levers to crush them even more.  No I’m serious. 

 

But the best part is the “Boo-Hoo” hook.

The innocent victims, Mr. and Ms. Joe Taxpayer, won’t get what they need to stay solvent.  And nearly one of ten of them can’t find work.  And that’s not counting the vast underemployed.

The innocent victims!  Well what about that?

Anyone want to guess whether the ‘workshop’ presented the shift in a positive light?  Wilson’s fascist War government was emulated in Europe and the foundation for Roosevelt’s New Deal take over—which Mr. Obama claims to have based his “new” New Deal (With even more spending power, and improved growth fighting debt!)

It’s the gift that keeps on taking.

So the Cheshire County Historical Society has seminars on sheep and wool, Hobby Horses and Dolls, Candle making, and progressivism.   The center is closed for the 4^th of July. 

Why does HSCC schedule a workshop for teachers on progressivism right before the Independence day Holiday?  Seems like there are more relevant topics to broach given the impending holiday.  So was it intentional?

 

Just asking.  

In 1926 President Calvin Coolidge gave a speech, an independence day address.  It has just come to may attention, and  I enjoyed it so much I felt obliged to share it.  The excerpt below is from well within the body of the text, but I think it will encourage you to read the entire thing.

“”About the Declaration there is a finality that is exceedingly restful. It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning can not be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. According to Human Events late last night the Democrat majority Congress attached a document which ‘Deemed as passed’ a 1.12 trillion dollar budget.  The document was attached to the War supplemental bill and approved on partisan lines (despite bi-partisan objection) 215-210.

It will come as no surprise to New Hampshire residents that Both Paul Hodes and Carol Shea-Porter voted to approve HR1500 and the 1.12 trillion dollar slush fund with which they apparently intend to continue the operation of the federal government. 

This will allow appropriators to continue spending.  According to Rep Paul Ryan,” with no priorities and no restraints the spending, taxing and borrowing will continue unchecked for the coming year.”

The arrogance of this lot continues to exceed itself at every opportunity.  And it is quite clear that even if they lose the majority this Novemebr that they will ram through every part of their destructive agenda they can manage without any consideration for process or accountability.

So 215 House legislators appear to have given themselves a 1.12 trillion dollar earmark to appropriate as they see fit.  Somehow I don’t think that is going to sit too well.  I also happen to think that thit is exactly the point.
