Paul Hodes NH-02 and Carol Shea-Porter NH-01, voted in favor of spoon feeding another 14 billion in tax dollars into the Amtrak system with H.R. 6003. Amtrak has been the recipient of much Federal largess over the course of its existence, and clearly has no incentive to make the system profitable as long as the Feds keep financing it with our tax dollars.
Freight rail, in contrast receives almost no federal money, and manages to make a profit. But it relies on service and good management to stay in business.
Maybe we need to ask Reps Hodes and Shea-Porter why some rail companies can run their businesses without a 14 billion dollar handout, and some can’t. And what incentives 14 billion dollars buys to take Amtrak off the federal dole.
